Dammhagen Eco Bed & Bistro
Dammhagen Eco Bed & Bistro offers a serene retreat. We welcome groups of four to six people. All the food we serve is organic and made from scratch, using seasonal and preferably local ingredients. A hearty brunch and full dinner is included.
Escaping the daily grind with a small group of companions is becoming increasingly popular. At secluded Dammhagen, groups of four to six people can now enjoy a stay focused on deep recovery and togetherness. Guests enjoy a comfortable, harmoniously decorated cottage and are served exclusively organic ingredients. Dammhagen has developed a concept that allows guests to slow down, ground themselves, and give their bodies a fresh start.
Biodiversity is important not only in and around a farmer’s fields but also in our own microbiome. A diet free from synthetic additives and pesticide residues can soothe an unsettled stomach and strengthen beneficial gut bacteria. At Dammhagen, in the northern part of Bohuslän, visitors experience a healthy reset in the peaceful setting of a cottage.
Dammhagen Eco Bed & Bistro serves only organic food to its guests. The farm’s sheep graze freely on the land, and the hens lay eggs with brilliant yellow yolks. In the production kitchen, sourdough bread is baked, vegetables are fermented, and meals are prepared. Our official Slow Food farm sources the best offerings from Swedish organic agriculture, in addition to what is produced on-site. The sourdough breads and pizza dough are crafted using heritage grains from local, KRAV-certified growers.
New findings regarding digestion have shifted our perspective on organic food. Pesticides used in agriculture—as well as many additives employed by the food industry—are detrimental to gut health and have been linked to serious illnesses and health issues. Elisabeth Tollisen, who runs Dammhagen, has been mindful of this for over a decade.
"I am very firm when it comes to food, I require organic or biodynamic certification," says Elisabeth Tollisen. "Many people think that organic certification only benefits the environment, but ultimately, it’s about how organic food can benefit you personally.»
The farm is situated in a peaceful forest clearing. Colleagues or groups of friends come here to find the focus needed for work, to attend a course, or simply enjoy a diverse range of organic food. The separate guesthouse with annex features WiFi, bathrooms, and a pleasant loft where guests can relax with music or a good book whenever they feel like taking a break. For those who truly want to disconnect, the setting is perfect for a "digital detox"—the WiFi is turned off, and there is no TV in sight. Guests often challenge one another to see who can go the longest without checking their mobile phones. There is an extensive library, and one could spend hours browsing through the collection of cookbooks.
"When I ran my organic shop in Oslo, I discovered the vast number of organic producers in Sweden," says Elisabeth Tollisen. "We sourced products from many of them and decided to move here to become part of this valuable network. We were fortunate enough to find Dammhagen farm.»
In 2022, the eco shop Mølleren Sylvia in Oslo was awarded the prestigious Debio Prize for its efforts in promoting the benefits of eating organic food. Now, Elisabeth is doing the same in Sweden, hosting small groups of four to six guests who enjoy exclusively organic food throughout their entire stay. The hosts are eager to share their knowledge and look forward to learning from their guests as well. The farm is located far away from any disruptive noise. Yet, it is only a short distance to Fjällbacka, Resö, Strömstad, or towns across the border in Norway. Visitors often choose to simply stay put, foregoing any planned excursions.
"The sea air reaches us—clean and rich in oxygen—and the silence at night ensures a good night’s sleep. We’ve had guests who extend their stay, appreciating the chance to unwind from the hustle and bustle of everyday life," says Stein Leikanger, who runs the farm together with Elisabeth.
He recounts how one German visitor asked for the blueprints of the "Red Cottage", declaring it "ganz perfekt"—absolutely perfect. She wanted to build a replica back home. The cottage is cozy and an ideal setting for rejuvenation.
In total, Dammhagen can accommodate six overnight guests at a time, with each stay tailored to the specific group.
"We’ve had musicians who spent their time working in the Red Cottage, only emerging for meals. Others prefer us to include a course package for their group—something they then engage with very enthusiastically," says Elisabeth Tollisen.
"Every visit is unique, as we plan the stay with our guests beforehand to tailor the experience. Some might want to take a course in fermentation or learn our 'wet-baking' method for sourdough. Others have specific requests regarding the dishes or ingredients they’d like us to prepare. As long as the ingredients are organic, anything is possible!" she laughs.
Stays can be booked at any time of year. Dammhagen welcomes groups of four to six people, with a minimum stay of two nights. A longer stay creates space for presence, deeper immersion, and a more mindful way of traveling.

Your stay at Dammhagen will be most rewarding if we've had a chance to plan it together, before your arrival. We tailor the experience according to the wishes of guests. We accept bookings of groups of four to six people, who come to experience a "restart" at Dammhagen. Our Bed & Bistro is in a quiet, secluded location. The region has numerous opportunities for guests who are looking for a place to party. At Dammhagen, we seek serenity and recharge and trust you will do the same. Alcoholic beverages are permitted. The Swedish Systembolaget has an extensive list of biodynamic and organic wine, spirits and beers, and you can buy from them prior to arrival. (We do not sell alcoholic beverages, but do have a number of non-alcoholic options, including our kombuchas). We offer the full and exclusive use of a separate villa and annex to our guests. Water supply is from a private well, the water is of high quality, but there is not a lot. For this reason, we suggest short duration showers. We have guests who wish to take part in the courses we offer, in sourdough baking, fermentation, storage methods for produce and stock, etc. And others wish to use Dammhagen for seclusion and rest, for a writers' retreat, a work gathering, etc. We are more than happy to cater to a variety of visits.
