Forni di Sopra is the heart of the Friulian Dolomites, an authentic Alpine Pearl that you must discover with your family.

Splendid Unesco World Heritage peaks of the Friulian Dolomites frame a large and sunny basin where there are small houses built in stone and wood and ancient buildings: here we are in Forni di Sopra, an enchanting village in the heart of Friuli, Italy.

What to see, between nature and rural villages

This corner of the world seems to invite us to relax, away from everyday stress. Forni di Sopra is located in the province of Udine, in the enchanting region of Carnia, at an altitude of 900 meters. Dominated by mountains that reach 2600 meters of height, this place is magical in winter as well as in summer.

Walking among the houses in the city center, arriving in the main square adorned with a suggestive stone fountain, we can not help but fall in love with this Alpine Pearl, formed by three enchanting villages. There is Vico, the capital, Andrazza characterized by stone and wood houses with attached barns and stables and Cella, where we can visit the Parish Church of Santa Maria Assunta, with the highest bell tower in Carnia, and the church of San Floriano. Near the ford of Tagliamento river there are the remains of the Sacuidic castle. The Davaaras furnace represents another important historical testimony of this mountain destination.

If the village offers numerous attractions, the surrounding nature is probably even more surprising. You can spot a European lynx, beautiful deer or fascinating owls in the Parulana Wildlife Area, reach the Taront Crasulina lakes through an easy path or simply spend a day in the middle of a real natural spectacle.

Frico with polenta, fried cheese and mountain herbs: this is how Forni di Sopra conquers our palate too. In the restaurants of the town or in the mountain huts you can discover a simple, tasty cuisine that is still closely linked to the rhythms of nature, while the festival of herbs (in June) and the festival of mushrooms (in September) are the perfect occasions for tasting local delicacies.
