What sparked your passion for environmental sustainability?
Our passion for sustainability was born from the unique and fragile beauty of Venice. Living in such a special city made us deeply aware of the impact tourism can have on the environment and motivated us to embark on a path of change to offer an experience that respects both the land and its people.
What key aspects have shaped your path toward eco-sustainability?
The key aspects have been waste reduction (for example, we serve à la carte breakfasts instead of buffets to minimize waste) and the choice of eco-friendly materials (we have eliminated plastic bottles and cups in the rooms, using refillable dispensers to reduce single-use plastic). Additionally, we collaborate with local suppliers to reduce our carbon footprint—for instance, by sourcing coffee from a historic Venetian roastery.
How would you describe your ideal “eco-traveler” guest?
Our ideal guest is a curious individual who appreciates authenticity, someone who loves exploring Venice at a slow pace, on foot, and immersing themselves in local culture.
What has been the most meaningful review you’ve received, and what made it special?
One review that particularly touched us came from a couple who called us “an eco-friendly refuge in the heart of Venice.” They appreciated the attention to detail (such as using glassware and offering à la carte breakfasts) and the welcoming atmosphere.
Let’s debunk the myth that eco-sustainability is always more expensive. Do you believe “Eco” can also mean “Economic”?
Absolutely! Many eco-friendly solutions save money: using durable products avoids recurring expenses (as mentioned earlier, refillable dispensers for shampoo, soap, etc.). I recommend starting with small steps, such as eliminating single-use plastic. Every sustainable investment pays off, both economically and in terms of guest loyalty.
Which green initiatives have brought you the most satisfaction, and which have been most appreciated by your guests?
One of the most gratifying initiatives is our à la carte breakfast featuring homemade (e.g., yogurt, desserts) and locally sourced products (e.g., coffee from a local roastery, as mentioned earlier). Guests greatly appreciate the quality and effort. Another beloved initiative is our water filtration system (a special dispenser allows guests to fill their water bottles as they wish), which eliminates the need for plastic bottles.
