A small corner of Provence in the Rhône-Alpes region, the Baronnies Provençales Regional Nature Park is the perfect place for a stay immersed in nature. Established in 2015, this park will leave you speechless with its perched villages, spectacular landscapes, and incredible biodiversity. Discover it through our green guide.

Villages Not to Miss

The park takes its name from the barons who ruled the territory during the Holy Roman Empire. So, it’s no surprise that there are still many villages, remnants of these baronnies, all waiting to be explored. Montbrun-les-Bains, for instance, offers the charm of an ancient Roman village and the relaxation of the thermal springs that have made it famous. Additionally, the ruins of a Renaissance castle add a magical touch to the citadel.

We also recommend visiting the gateway towns to the park: Grignan, Montélimar, Dieulefit, Sisteron, Valréas, Vaison-la-Romaine, and Veynes. These villages are true gems, rich in history and cultural heritage. As you stroll through their verdant nature and fortresses, stop by the “Relais du Parc” tourist offices for more information on the park.

Must-See Hiking Trails

The Baronnies Provençales Regional Nature Park, with its mountains and passes, offers extremely diverse landscapes, both mineral and pastoral. Take advantage of the many hiking trails to discover the park’s natural beauty. For a route suitable for all levels, follow a 5 km trail that crosses the Col de la Fromagère, also known as Col de Pommerol. This path allows you to observe the beautiful vegetation with its pines, boxwood, groves, and pasture meadows, as well as the expansive valley.

For the more adventurous, there is a more challenging trail that reaches the Croix du Rocher du Caire from the Abbey of Bodon. A breathtaking path that, at its final point, offers a view of the magnificent Gorges de l’Eygues.

On the other hand, those who enjoy climbs can try the Col de Pierre Vesce cycling loop, with stunning views of the Perty or Saint-Jean passes.

Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the Baronnies by sampling the area’s typical products, many of which are also awarded Controlled Designation of Origin and Protected Geographical Indication labels. Taste the olives and olive oil from Nyons, the apples from the Alps of Haute-Durance, and the “infusettes,” herbal teas made from aromatic plants.
