Imagine having your own private, 2-room suite (w/ private bath) in a new custom home on 4 private, wooded hectares that borders on a 120-ha park with over 18 kilometers of trails to explore on foot or mtn bike.
Durango, an "old west" town in southwest Colorado, is a terrific place to visit. It lies at the intersection of the Colorado Rockies (north & east) and the high-plateau desert (south & west), While we have 4 seasons, we also enjoy 300 days of sunshine a year. We have six local breweries, scores of restaurants & many festivals.
Durango is an active outdoor town -- including hiking, mountain biking, river rafting, zip lines, 4x4 tours, golf, fishing, skiing, and many other activities. Check out for videos of our area & the many things one can do.
You will enjoy complete serenity on our heavily wooded lot, yet we are only two miles from Durango's historic downtown.
Our custom home, completed in 2015, has a passive solar design that blocks the summer sun but permits the winter sun to enter enter the house. We thus get free heat from the winter sun, while our house remains cool in the summer.
An added benefit of this design is that our large windows on the south need no shades, so we are connected daily to the environment around our house. Equally important, give our terrific daylighting year round, we do not need to waste electricity to power lights during the day.
We also Net Zero Energy. Our 10 kW PV system generates more clean energy than we use. We use only EnergyStar-certified appliances, WaterSense-certified fixtures, and LED lights. We also have an "on-demand" recirculation system so we waste no water while waiting for hot water to arrive.
Our guest suite includes two rooms (plus a private bath with a walk-in shower). The bedroom has a comfortable queen bed that can accommodate two adults. The adjacent TV/sitting room includes a foldout couch w/ a full-sized air mattress (that can accommodate up to two children).
Our nightly rate is $140 US w/o breakfast; $160 with breakfast. We charge $20 US/night if the foldout couch is used. There is no charge for use of a pack-n-play bed for infants. We are required to impose a lodging tax of 9.9% on all of our fees. We accept all major credit cards.
