About the Eco Casita
-Electric Toilet: The instructions for the Incinolet toilet are in the Guest Book and posted next to the toilet: 1) Insert a bowel liner in the toilet prior to each use; 2) EVERYONE must sit on the toilet seat. No standing please. 3) Deposit liquid or solid waste, including toilet paper; 4) Use your foot to completely press down and “flush” (lower right side of toilet) the bowel liner with contents into the basin. 5) Press the start button and you will hear the blower go on… it’s that simple. Each burning cycle will take 1 to 1.5 hours. Important: You may use the toilet as often as needed while the system is running. Just follow the same procedure above and press the button each time to restart the cycle, even if it is already on. -Electricity: We buy our electricity through Arcadia Power which sources power from wind and solar farms. (
-Sewer: We have a grey water system and all used water is deposited back to the land. There is no city sewer or septic. We ask that you are conscious of what you put down the drains; organic liquids and tiny particles only. Our toilets do not use water.
-Water: We have a rain catchment system and depend on Mother Nature to supply us with our water. Rain water is naturally soft and delicious. The drinking water is double filtered. Our water supply is limited and we ask that you remain conscious of this by not running the water needlessly. Should we have a dry year, we supplement from municipal water systems.
-Building Construction: All buildings are constructed from RASTRA: RASTRA is a stay-in-place Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) System that is structurally strong. RASTRA Insulated concrete forms' strength is up to 700% stronger than wood frame walls. RASTRA Insulated concrete forms are energy-efficient decreasing energy consumption by up to and above 50% (Rastra.com).

Temperature Control: The house is VERY WELL INSULATED, so heat/cooling may not be necessary except in extreme weather. There are separate remote control units for the upstairs and downstairs mini-split heating/AC systems. Please do not leave the heat or AC on when not occupying the space. The rooms will heat/cool quickly when you return because of the insulation.
If you need to supplement, you can use a space heater (available in downstairs closet). You may open windows for cooling, but never leave the AC/Heating system on with windows or doors open.
The bed has a heated mattress pad, with independently controlled thermostats for each side. Usually the heated mattress pads are sufficient for sleeping comfortably. For additional cooling you have ceiling fans, both upstairs and downstairs, plus electric skylights. You may also open windows when the main system is not on.
-Bathroom: The left bank of drawers and center cabinet are for owner use only. The right bank of drawers are empty and available for your use.
Entertainment:
TV: The bedroom has a 40” Smart TV which includes subscriptions to various streaming services. Please DO NOT charge any movies/TV to our accounts.
Music: Enjoy our mostly vintage component stereo system which plays vinyl and CD’s. There is a small selection of vinyl records and CD’s from mid-century to current. You may also tap in to our Klipsch Bluetooth speaker for streaming from your device.

REFRIGERATOR: Anything in the refrigerator is available for your consumption. We ask that you dispose of any open food or drink when checking out.
COFFEE: A French Press is supplied for your pleasure. Enjoy the freshly ground local coffee with a selection of sweeteners. Oat Milk is in the refrigerator.
TEA: There is a selection of tea bags and loose tea available.
NIGHT TIME: Turn on the exterior lights before leaving for the evening. Viewing the night sky is a special treat at Galeria Viviente. For the best viewing, we suggest you temporarily turn off the exterior house lights.
FRONT PATIO: You may use the entire front patio, bistro set and lounge chairs. We only ask that the noise level is kept down. We are in a canyon and noise can be amplified.
BACK PATIO: This area, accessible from the upstairs bedroom, is very small. The surrounding area is rocky and can be dangerous. We like to keep that door locked (except for emergency use), however the door can be opened for air flow with the screen door closed. Never leave any screen doors open.
