Family farm of 8 hectares certified organic, with olive trees, vines, vegetable garden, orchard, animals. Passive house made of wood and straw, energy autonomous. Calm, health and serenity guaranteed! Organic meals and wellness therapies possible on site.
We are a small Reunion Island-French-Canadian family, and we decided a few years ago to settle down, after having lived and traveled in many countries around the world.
Our farm, certified organic, is located in central Portugal, in a very rural region, rich in history and traditions, near a charming little village once inhabited by the Romans. We built our passive and solar house ourselves in wood and straw, to enjoy cool temperatures in summer and mild temperatures in winter.
The land, away from the village and in the heart of olive groves, borders a singing river. The calm is sometimes disturbed by a tractor passing in the distance or by the bleating of flocks of sheep on a walk. Many wild trails surround the farm, which promise hours of hiking.
On the terrace, the night reveals its milky voice and stars each brighter than the last! In the early morning, you may be gently woken up by the singing of birds in the ash trees, while our rooster, far from the house, will not disturb you.
We have 1 hectare of vines and 250 olive trees: we make our grape juice, our olive oil, and the diversity of our vegetable garden feeds us all year round. We practice the principles of permaculture and biodynamics. Our orchard also gives us delicious fruits: apples, pears, figs, cherries, peaches, raspberries, redcurrants, chestnuts... Every year we plant trees, trees, and more trees!
The room has a double bed, a desk area, and there is the possibility of adding a small single mattress in the room.
You will be able to attend the daily activities of the farm: milking our Amarela goat, making cheese, ethological training of our horses, collecting eggs from our chickens, maintaining and picking vegetables in the vegetable garden or medicinal plants in our mandala garden, making preserves or medicinal products...
We are also therapists: Laetitia is a herbalist, trainer, author of "L'autre Pharmacie" and hypnotherapist. Yannick is a massage therapist, shiatsu practitioner and reiki master. You will also meet our daughter, a young student full of life, who loves to cook and chat with visitors.
We are generous in sharing our knowledge, our travel anecdotes, and the reasons for our life choices: respect for the environment and biodiversity, food and energy autonomy, alternative health practices.
We offer the possibility to add to your stay delicious organic and vegetarian meals, from the farm's ingredients, as well as consultations in shiatsu, reiki, naturopathy, herbalism, hypnotherapy.
You have access to a large communal living room with a wood stove, a large kitchen and a bathroom with shower. We often receive volunteers, so the meals are usually copious, warm and friendly!
We are located 2 hours from Porto; we are close to the Serra da Estrela National Park, as well as many medieval villages and the prehistoric site of Foz Coa. There are several rivers accessible for swimming in the area. All summer, people live to the rhythm of village festivals and fairs: an opportunity to discover local traditions and Portuguese artists of all kinds!
NB:
- our farm is accessible by a 1 km dirt road (passable by any "normal" car, unless it is a sports car with a very low floor).
- if you want to come by public transport, it is possible! There is a bus station in Trancoso and a train station in Vila Franca das Naves, both 15 minutes from us. The taxi ride costs 20 EUR. If there is no taxi available, we can also offer this service (contact us privately).
- we provide organic and biodegradable soap and shampoo. Please do not bring "classic" cosmetic products, because our gray water management is done by phyto-purification.
- our toilets are dry, composting.
- there is no wifi access in the room or in the common areas. Either you take advantage of it to do this famous "digital detox", or you use your own phone plan. Otherwise, wifi is provided free of charge in the village (3 minutes by car, 10 minutes on foot). You can also buy a local data SIM card for about 10 EUR.
- from mid-December to mid-February, it is colder and we do not receive during this period.
