Family farm of 8 hectares certified organic, with olive trees, vines, vegetable garden, orchard, animals. Passive house made of wood and straw, energy autonomous. Calm, health and serenity guaranteed! Organic meals and wellness therapies possible on site.
We are a small French-Canadian family from Réunion Island, and we decided to settle down a few years ago after living and traveling in many countries around the world.
Our certified organic farm is located in central Portugal, in a very rural region rich in history and traditions, near a charming little village once inhabited by the Romans. We built our passive, solar-powered house ourselves, made of wood and straw, to enjoy cool temperatures in the summer and mild ones in the winter.
The land, away from the village and surrounded by olive groves, borders a babbling river. The peace is sometimes disturbed by a tractor passing in the distance or the bleating of flocks of sheep wandering around. Numerous wilderness trails surround the farm, promising hours of hiking.
On the terrace, the night reveals its milky voice and the stars are each brighter than the last! In the early morning, you may be gently awakened by the sound of birdsong in the ash trees, while our rooster, far from the house, won't disturb you.
We have 1 hectare of vineyards and 250 olive trees: we make our own grape juice and olive oil, and the diversity of our vegetable garden feeds us all year round. We practice the principles of permaculture and biodynamics. Our orchard also provides us with delicious fruit: apples, pears, figs, cherries, peaches, raspberries, currants, chestnuts... Every year we plant trees, trees, and more trees!
The bedroom has a double bed, a desk area, and there is the option of adding a small single mattress.
You'll be able to witness the daily activities of the farm: milking our goat Amarela and our sheep Stella, making cheese, ethological training our horses, collecting eggs from our chickens, tending and picking vegetables in the vegetable garden or medicinal plants in our mandala garden, making preserves and medicinal products...
We are also therapists: Laetitia is a herbalist, trainer, author of "L'autre Pharmacie" (The Other Pharmacy), and hypnotherapist. Yannick is a massage therapist, shiatsu practitioner, and Reiki master. You'll also meet our daughter, a lively young student who loves cooking and chatting with visitors.
We are generous about sharing our knowledge, our travel anecdotes, and the reasons for our lifestyle choices: respect for the environment and biodiversity, food and energy self-sufficiency, and alternative health practices. We offer the option to add delicious organic and vegetarian meals to your stay, made with ingredients from the farm, as well as consultations in shiatsu, reiki, naturopathy, herbalism, and hypnotherapy.
You have access to a large communal lounge with a wood-burning stove, a large kitchen, and a bathroom with a shower. We often host volunteers, so the meals are generally hearty, warm, and friendly!
We are located 2 hours from Porto; we are close to the Serra da Estrela National Park, as well as many medieval villages and the prehistoric site of Foz Coa. There are several rivers accessible for swimming in the region. All summer long, locals live to the rhythm of village festivals and celebrations: an opportunity to discover local traditions and Portuguese artists of all kinds!
Note:
- Our farm is accessible via a 1 km dirt road (passable by any "normal" car, unless it's a sports car with a very low floor).
- If you wish to arrive by public transport, it's possible! There is a bus station in Trancoso and a train station in Vila Franca das Naves, both 15 minutes from our place. A taxi ride costs 20 EUR. If no taxi is available, we can also offer this service (contact us privately).
- We provide organic and biodegradable soap and shampoo. Please do not bring "conventional" cosmetics, as our graywater management is done through phyto-purification.
