This charming house has over 30 years of tradition in combining sustainability with comfort and offers ecological tourism at its best based on sustainability and nature preservation.
Situated between Caldas da Rainha and Foz do Arelho, the villa is an ideal starting point for exploring the nearby beaches of Foz do Arelho, Peniche, Nazaré, and many others. The medieval fortified city of Óbidos is a short car-drive away and day-trips to Lisbon, Coimbra, Fátima, and Porto are easily doable.
Fully integrated in the natural beauty of western Portugal, Refúgio Rural enables you to experience an ecological way of living combined with cozy suites. The house with 3 suites is on a large plot surrounded by lush gardens including an organic vegetable plot and orchard. There are also small farm animals (chicken, ducks, cats) on the premises.
Guests can stroll in the garden, take a walk in the surrounding lush countryside or enjoy the beautiful sunsets from the terrace.
The garden has a small play area for children (including two swings) and the 10m x 4m covered swimming pool can be used all year round.
We collect rainwater from our roofs for supplying the house. The water is treated to the highest standards and is regularly monitored and is of excellent quality. The used water is cleaned in a reed bed and used for irrigation. As it is a living system, we provide biodegradable soaps and shampoos as chemical petroleum based products harm the microbial life. A part of the electricity comes from our solar panels.
We continually strive to make Refúgio Rural as eco-friendly as possible. We will plant a tree for every booking made, make the vegetables and fruit from our garden available for the guests (as far as possible), promote local businesses and provide much of the heating via a system fuelled by renewable energy, i.e. wood. We offer satellite TV have a small library which is at your disposal during your stay and provide toys and books for children as well as cards and games for children and grown ups! There is plastic crockery and cutlery in the kitchen for smaller children.
No pets, no smoking and no parties are allowed inside the house.
