Calçada Guesthouse -B&B & Co-living

The Guesthouse and co-living space is a beautiful accommodation located amongst the oldest streets in Tavira, Eastern Algarve, Portugal. The house is hidden in a small residential square behind the main praça within the heart of the historical center of Tavira, one of the most architecturally attractive towns in the Algarve. The B&B comprises six individually decorated bedrooms all with en-suite shower rooms.

The process of building Calçada Guesthouse has been an arduous journey but one that has been well worth the wait. During the three-year process we worked alongside archaeologists and whilst excavating, amongst other interesting discoveries, we found the Iron Age city wall of Tavira. So as not to disturb the ancient wall we amended the layout and subsequently one of the bedrooms now sits alongside the original Iron Age wall of Tavira. The site holds an important history dating back from the Iron Age through the Phoenician and Roman eras to the modern-day.

The cafés, restaurants, museums, galleries, castle and Roman bridge are all within a few meters walk. Only a few hundred metres away is the Summer ferry embarkation which has frequent daily crossings to the beautiful golden beach of Tavira Island, rated as one of the top 10 beaches in the world by the Lonely Planet travel guide.

Our six bedrooms, all with en-suite shower rooms and balconies or exterior doors, are individually decorated in different styles. Four of the bedrooms open onto the small residential square to the front of the building and the remaining two have private patio areas with tables and seating, ideal for taking a coffee or enjoying the sun or just relaxing.

Each room has been designed and comfortably furnished so you can enjoy the space to truly relax in. Calçada Guesthouse has five double bedrooms with double size beds (150 x 200 cm) and one twin room with two single beds.

Equipment & Installations:
Photovoltaic's installed to provide electricity for the house and a shade on the roof
Installation of solar hot water tubes to provide hot water for the guests bathrooms and our kitchen
Heat pump to assist the heating of the water more efficiently
Refillable chilled and filtered water for guests to use to reduce plastic throw away bottles
LED bulbs throughout the house
Movement sensors are located in hallways and stairways
Installation of additional external and internal insulation to reduce heat loss in Winter and keep the house cool in Summer
Use of log burner in the lounge area eliminates need to use a/c invertors in Winter months
High quality double glazed windows and use of thick curtains on windows to control heat loss and gain
Aerators installed in all basin taps and showers to reduce water consumption
Small water capacity flush toilets
In the garden and roof terrace drought tolerant plants have been planted and there is a watering system which uses minimal water
Recycling facilities for all types of standard recycling as well as for coffee capsules, printer cartridges, batteries, small electrical appliances
Glass bottle provided in each guest room with filtered water which is replenished every day reducing plastic use
Towels and linen replacement strategies in place through all guest rooms
Top-up guest amenity bathroom dispensers installed in all guest bathrooms
Re-usable linen bags for towel and linen collection from laundrette
We ask for guests input such as using the recycling bin for any recyclable waste, using reusable water bottles to refill with water, turning taps off when not necessary, turning off air conditioning/heating when not required, keeping doors and windows shut when using air conditioning/heating.
To create partnerships and discounts with local businesses to promote carbon neutral excursions such as solar boats, hiking, cycling, supping, etc.
Promoting guests to shop at the municipal market and local shops.

To work alongside Faro hospitality school to encourage students to gain experience and advice by working with us and teach them our sustainable practices.
