Off-the-grid Yurt on Organic Farm

“Yurt” is the Russian translation for what the Mongolian people call “Ger” both of which translate to ‘Dwelling” or “home”. Yurts have been a key form of dwelling in Central Asia for more than three thousand years particularly for the Mongolian nomadic people. The homes have evolved to provide reliable shelter from ferocious storms and the sub-zero temperatures of the Steppes.

​The practicality, comfort, and portability of yurts allows people to continue to live in this traditional way, moving every few months with their herds, which will often include sheep that provide wool for insulating the yurts, and yaks or horses that provide long hair to make the ropes to bind together the parts of the yurt.
