EcoLanka Maussawa Estate

As an internationally certified organic producer (FGP) this is not a place of promoting teas, but during the stay, we provide visitors with activities (included in the stay's total price) in line with the ecological and social ideals that we support, such as :
· Discovering the art of kitul tapping with Dewatissa
· Trekking on our 20 hectares and discover the principles of Analog Forestry
· Visiting the vegetable, spices and medicinal plant gardens and their nursery with the villagers
· Identifying flora, fauna, fruit trees and other edible plants
· Observing more than 100 species of birds identified in the Estate
· Discovering the traditional transformation processes of Kitul, Urucum, Stevia, spices, cocoa, coffee, tea… with Kusuma
· Visiting prehistoric caves: former leisure residence of kings in the region
· Crossing the village of Halpola and hiking to the temple of Rawanagode
· Swimming in natural rock pools or in the river nearby the ecotourism
· Trekking through paddy fields and to the temple of Madakumbura
· Observing waterfalls just across of Maussawa Estate
· Visiting the little town of Pundaluoya

Our commitment in the Slow Food movement also allowed us to make known and preserve traditional productions in order to keep the village, its inhabitants and its farmers alive. For example, the emblematic Kitul treacle has been elected Slow Food Presidium thanks to the Maussawa’s Convivium and the traditional cereal Kurakkan has been elected Ark of Taste by the Slow Food movement.
