In Borgo Le Caselle, halfway between the sea and the mountains, you will find a now rare calm, organic products from the garden and our neighboring shepherds, a wild nature with paths cured by flocks of Cilento goats, a beautiful starry sky.
Borgo Le Caselle
The three houses of Borgo Le Caselle are located in a small rural district of the municipality of Tortorella, in the Gulf of Policastro, at 680 m above sea level, on a plot of approximately 6,000 m2, consisting partly of holm oak forest, partly of a young olive grove and partly from the meadow, where the cows of our neighbor Giuseppe still graze today. From the various terraces the view extends from the green hills to the blue sea on the horizon. We have 4 housing units:
The Casa Sottana (110 sq m) can accommodate 4 to 6 people in 3 rooms, with 2 bathrooms, a kitchen and a living room.
The Soprana House (120 sq m) is suitable for up to 6 people, with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a living room kitchen. It has a large roof terrace with stunning views.
The Scuola Vecchia (40 m2) is a two-room apartment suitable for a couple, with a bedroom with a double bed, private bathroom, kitchen - living room and terrace
The Casa del Pellegrino (25sqm) is a studio apartment furnished with everything needed for a pleasant stay: bathroom with shower, kitchenette, double bed.
Each house has its own private access with plenty of space to park, as well as an external laundry room, furnished with washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board. In addition, here you will find all the products needed to clean your home in an ecological way. A wooden cottage and a swing awaits young and old guests.
For heating we use wood, gas, the heat of the sun and electricity, each housing unit is equipped with a fireplace or stove to enjoy the warmth of a beautiful fire.
In the renovation we respected typical and ecological materials, following principles of eco-sustainability; we used chestnut wood for the ceilings, old tiles for the roofs, the local stone for the walls, terracotta for the floor.
We supply and use natural house and body cleaning products. We try to minimize the trash by buying eggs and ricotta from our neighbors, of the bulk wine that you will find in the cellar at your disposal, inviting you to take the water at the source. You can pick vegetables and herbs of the season in our garden. In the house you will find containers and bags of cloth for shopping. In our spare time we organize waste collections and other environmental initiatives (Clean Cilento Committee), to which guests can join if they wish.
The location of Borgo Le Caselle will allow you to find the rhythm, scents and sounds of nature. After a day in the sun on one of the beaches of the Tyrrhenian coast you can retreat to the cool, in the silence of the mountains. On summer evenings the various villages of the Gulf offer festivals, concerts and exhibitions. You can buy typical products from our neighbors such as ricotta, pecorino cheese, eggs, vegetables, goat meat and lamb; herbs to flavor them can be found in the garden.
From the house you can climb Monte Cocuzzo and Monte Serralunga, using the old paths of the shepherds that wind through the holm oak behind the house. The terraces of the Borgo invite you to stop and rest, read, dream, observe the stars at night and lizards during the day.
Tortorella, a typical village with narrow streets and gardens scattered between the walls, is 5 km away. There you will find a bar, a pizzeria, a butcher, 3 groceries, a pharmacy, the post office and breathtaking views, both on the Rio Casaletto gorge and towards the mountains to the west, flaming at sunset. The "Tortorella Mare" road takes you in 20 minutes to Villamare, a peaceful village with excellent trattorias, ice cream parlors and equipped beaches. For those who prefer smaller beaches we recommend Acquafredda beach and the coast of Masseta which can be reached by boat from Scario.
Here you will find information and maps to explore the mountains on foot, those who want can also participate in guided excursions from Bettina (see services). In the waters of our rivers the otter still lives, the shepherds complain of wolves, horses in the wild meet with a little luck ... The karst phenomena have created on the mountain a fantastic world of caves, gorges, sinkholes and sinkholes (sinkers) , used in times past as harsh or hiding places for brigands and animals.
Those looking for adventure can go canyoning in the Rio Casaletto or rafting on the Lao River.
History and culture lovers should not miss a visit to the Certosa di Padula (50 km), the early Christian Baptistery of San Giovanni in Fonte (55 km), the churches of Teggiano (65 km), the excavations of Roccagloriosa (35 km ) and Velia, the crypt of the Cathedral of Policastro, the prehistoric finds of the Grotta del Romito in the Lao Valley.

Wunderbar! Wir haben es sehr genossen in dieser wunderschön und liebevoll renoviertem Haus mit traumhafter Aussicht inmitten wilder Natur. Wir konnten Gemüse aus dem Garten ernten! Wir fühlten uns von den Gastgebern sehr willkommen geheissen und es gab spannende Austausche...
