To see in Vidor:
"The castle" deserves a visit, whose name derives from the presence of a medieval castle of which no ruins remain because it was completely destroyed in 1510. It can be reached along a paved road that starts from Via Ippolito Banfi. On the top, from which it is possible to admire the surrounding panorama, there is a small church that represents a Monument to the Fallen and was built after the end of the First World War.
The Benedictine abbey of Santa Bona: surrounded by greenery and overlooking the Piave river, it was built between 1106 and 1110 in a particularly strategic site where for centuries a boat pass worked to cross the river, as there is still no bridge. Later the property passed to private families. The abbey can be visited on the occasion of the Palio di Vidor, (3rd Sunday of September) and the feast of the patron Saint Joseph in March.
The path between the hills "From the sacred to Prosecco" allows visitors to immerse themselves in the Prosecco vines. From the parish church of Vidor proceeding along the cycle-pedestrian path along the SP28 you reach the residential shopping center "il Capitello" and take via Tintoretto; from there go down a path in the middle of the vegetation and reach the bed of the Piave; along a white road you reach the slopes of the abbey of Santa Bona, from where you can see the famous bridge and, in the background, the Grappa massif. From here along the short climb close to the abbey wall you come across the ancient village of Via Bressana and after the first initial stretch you can visit the cippus dedicated to Captain Stefanino Curti, an alpine gold medal for military valor during the Great War and then reach the starting point again.
In the small hamlet of Colbertaldo the Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie is worth a visit.
A tour around
From Vidor it is also possible to reach sites of historical, naturalistic, cultural and gastronomic interest.
Food and wine tourism: home of the Prosecco superiore DOCG, in the area of Vidor and along the "Strada del prosecco", an itinerary of about 50 km between pleasant hilly roads, from Conegliano to Valdobbiadene, there are numerous cellars where you can learn about and taste various types of prosecco and local wines, along with many gastronomic products with a geographical designation such as cheeses, cured meats, legumes and vegetables.
Places of historical interest: the territory of Vidor and the Piave river that flows in the town were the scene of crucial events of the Great War: In Moriago della Battaglia it is possible to visit the Isola dei Morti, a small area in the middle of the Piave where it developed the offensive of the battle of victory led by the Arditi that led to the end of the Great War. In Montebelluna there is the Veneto Memorial of the Great War (MEVE), an interactive and multimedia space based on the model of the Caen Memorial in France dedicated to the conflicts and events that marked the last century of our history starting from the first world war .
On the nearby Monte Grappa, Tomba and Palon, traces of the trenches used during the war are still visible.
Of particular historical and scenic interest, the Bosco delle Penne Mozze in Cison di Valmarino where it is possible to walk among more than 2000 stelae in memory of the war soldiers of Treviso.
Finally, Vittorio Veneto, a charming town on the slopes of the Treviso pre-Alps, was the place where the final battle of the First World War was fought.
Villages and cities: nearby Cison di Valmarino, Follina and Asolo are included among the most beautiful towns in Italy, while the latter also received the "Bandiera Arancione" award from the Touring Club. Other villages are Stramare, Rolle, located in hill opposite Cison di Valmarino, characterized by terraced vineyards along the steep slopes, Zuel di Qua and Zuel di là, small hidden districts that have remained unchanged over the years, Combai, Valdobbiadene.
The cities of Treviso, Bassano del Grappa, Feltre, Padua, Venice are certainly a little more distant and larger.
Sites of artistic interest: in Possagno, the birthplace of Antonio Canova, you can admire many of his artistic works in the museum and in the plaster cast gallery dedicated to him, while in Maser, Fanzolo di Vedelago and Cessalto you can visit three of Palladio's most beautiful villas, all declared World Heritage by UNESCO.
Nature and sport: there are many places to explore on foot or by bicycle: the Montello represents a singular relief of red earth that rises isolated in the Treviso plain south of the Piave, the Treviso pre-Alps, whose green lung is represented by the Cansiglio wood, which you can also ride on horseback following the bridle paths, the "Palù", one of the example of a "bocage" landscape interspersed with hedges and the most intact water ditches in Europe, and the Oasis of Fontane Bianche, whose name derives from the clarity of the local waters. The nearest mountain is Mount Cesen, reachable in 20 minutes by car.
In the southern sector of the province of Belluno there is the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park, a mountainous area of about 32,000 hectares, which contains a diversity of environments of great naturalistic value, for the most part still wild and unspoiled, forming part of the heritage of humanity UNESCO.
