Our eco-history
The farm where we decided to adapt and live was abandoned for 40 years and includes 4 small hills, in all 6 hectares of land; in place of the pre-existing vineyards, pines have been planted which over the years, which have partly dried up and partly fallen or sick. In the middle, the house that survived abandonment and sacking; the rest of the forest, also abandoned, and the olive grove that survived the 1985 frost because it was covered with brambles and weeds, and finally a piece of arable land in the valley. In recent years the wood has been cleared, the old olive grove partly recovered and partly replanted; the area of the pines is now used as an orchard, olive grove and lawn, while the arable land downstream has now become a synergistic vegetable garden, a traditional vegetable garden and for the rest thickened with spontaneous species. We have renovated maintaining all the characteristics of the ancient farmhouses: terracotta bricks, beams, rafters and exposed vaults, large fireplace with wood-burning oven, so it has become our home and is suitable for hosting friends and people who love the scents of nature. , the taste of freshly picked fruit and vegetables, of freshly baked bread, of the essences of our aromatic and medicinal plants cultivated with love. Each intervention was carried out following the best traditional practices: the wastewater from the house is disposed of with the sub-infiltration technique, the few unstable banks have been stabilized with wooden structures and jute bags filled with earth and rooting seeds. Electricity is obtained from photovoltaic panels (6 Kw peak), we compost the wet fraction of the waste and separate the remaining waste, we recover rainwater for irrigation and we are consolidating the embankments using aromatic and medicinal plants obtained from cuttings of our mother plants; on the slopes we have planted fruit trees.
