Rifugio escursionistico L'Eremo di Sant'Antonio
The Hermitage of Sant’Antonio is a hikers’ refuge in the Portofino Park, reachable with a 10-minute walk. The Hermitage, founded in 1317 by three friars managing a mill for crushing olives and chestnuts. We, following in their footsteps, offer…
Immersed in the quiet of the Portofino Natural Park, the Eremo di Sant’Antonio is a hiking refuge where simplicity becomes a conscious choice, and nature is experienced at a slow pace, between panoramic paths and dives into the crystalline sea. Founded in 1317 and today managed by a group of passionate friends, the Eremo can only be reached on foot, in a ten-minute climb through the woods above the Bay of Niasca. Here you can rediscover a slow time, marked by the song of birds, the scent of the garden and the stories that inhabit these ancient walls.
The rooms of the Eremo are simple but spacious, designed for those seeking an authentic and silent welcome. Four double rooms – including the Granaio with a double view of the sea and the woods, and the Fienile with a mezzanine – are flanked by two more spartan dormitories but perfect for small groups, retreats, residential events or team building. The common areas, such as the old mill room now a dining room, are places for sharing and storytelling.
The cuisine of the Eremo is deeply connected to the land: ingredients from the garden and zero-mile products give life to simple dishes that are rich in flavor. Every Friday, “la cucina di stretto magro” brings the austere recipes of the monks of Monte di Portofino to the table. In good weather, you can eat outside, among the olive trees and the scent of the sea. Upon reservation, it is also possible to organize picnics, lunches for groups and home-made aperitifs.
The Eremo is not just a place of passage, but a small community that cultivates knowledge and stories of the territory. Workshops, meetings, a library with an interactive whiteboard, readings in the shade of the trees and training sessions – from first aid to sustainable agriculture – are an integral part of the experience. Here, what lasts is valued: respect for the environment, creative reuse, self-production, conviviality.
How to get there:
Leave your car at home! Reaching the Hermitage is already part of the journey: from Santa Margherita Ligure, a comfortable bus (line 782) takes you to the Niasca stop, from where a short panoramic path (10 minutes) leads you to this corner of the world suspended between earth and sky.
