Agriturismo Biologico Serragambetta
The spontaneous familiarity and the close and never interrupted bond with the land and the territory, with the gastronomic and peasant culture mean that this hospitality can also be defined as authentic.
Serragambetta is located between Castellana, known for its Caves, and Conversano, the City of Counts. We are on the hills of the South-Eastern Murge. It is the countryside of Trulli and dry stone walls, of centuries-old olive trees and red earth, of Masserie and Casini di vaceggiatura.
It was built around 1880 by the doctor Domenico Lanera, as a summer residence. 100 years later it began its history as an Organic Farmhouse. Since then Serragambetta has evolved constantly: It looks to the needs of the times, while retaining the inspirations and objectives of the beginning - respect for the original architecture and the maintenance of gastronomic traditions and authentic hospitality.
So to bake bread and pizzas, the energy of the flames of the bundles in the wood oven is used; for the wireless internet connection, the electricity produced by the new photovoltaic system.
The sea is only 12 km away, but for a refreshing dip in the morning or a relaxing and fresh read, the swimming pool is definitely useful.
In the kitchen we use only organic products, mostly from the fields of Serragambetta (ICEA Certification, producer P067) or other organic companies in the area.
In the vegetable garden, each season sees the alternation of different crops.
From winter vegetables (turnip tops, cauliflowers, chicory, fennel, salads, etc.)
to all the vegetables that summer fills with light and flavor (tomatoes, courgettes, aubergines, peppers, green beans, basil, watermelons, cucumbers, etc. etc.).
And then there's the extra virgin olive oil, almonds, cherries and fruit of all sorts (figs, plums, lemons, pears, peaches, apricots, quinces, pomegranates and so on.)
For breakfast, bread and biscuits, cooked in a wood oven, go well with fruit jams and freshly picked tomatoes, as well as freshly baked cakes and tarts.
Dinner is the most important time to meet and socialise. Around the large table, people exchange impressions of the day and discuss the programme for the next day's excursion. Or they look on the map for the little road to cycle along or the most sheltered inlet if wind is forecast for the next day. And when the first pizzas start to emerge from the wood oven, you often see musician friends appear who - to the sound of tammorra, guitar and accordion - create the atmosphere for those who want to try their first steps in pizzica or tarantella.
The main body of the villa, built around 1880 by the doctor Domenico Lanera, overlooks a large courtyard, paved with chianche, the local stone flagstones. The other buildings are the pre-existing turret, the small stables and the former winery.
From the courtyard you can access the underlying garden, with a pentagonal plan, and from there to the small forest of oaks and other Mediterranean plants.
Inside these structures, restored in full respect of the original architecture, there are seven residential units intended for agritourism. The furnishings are from the late nineteenth or early twentieth century.
NOTES ON PRICES AND SERVICES
The service we generally offer is half board, overnight stay, breakfast and dinner.
The accommodations, all different from each other, are quoted mainly based on the number of beds, but also based on the number of members of the family or group, the age of the children, the season, the length of the stay, the type of accommodation, etc. etc. Therefore, instead of a complex table with all the possible cases, we tell you more simply that we can formulate a precise offer once we have received your specific request and thus apply discounts and reductions based on the variables mentioned above.
