The farm:
located at 400 meters above sea level in the Garfagnana valley (Tuscany), surrounded by woods and cultivated fields, the Antico podere De Stefani is at the center of a historic farm - created in the 19th century by a famous university professor and man of science - today managed with the best criteria of bio-sustainable family farming, with great attention to typical products, social and environmental responsibility. We are surrounded by the Apuan Alps and the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, mountains that enclose the Garfagnana valley protected by the "Tuscan-Emilian Apennines National Park" and the "Apuan Alps Regional Park".
The farmhouse:
a part of the farmhouse and an agricultural annex have been renovated for use as a farmhouse. Here you can spend your holidays in an oasis of tranquility among the landscape, castles, villages and medieval fortresses of the Garfagnana; you can walk and climb to the refuges and panoramic peaks of the Apuan Alps and the Apennines, or discover the culture of a valley where, for example, you can learn Italian without dialect inflections, take music courses from important international associations or simply attend the local sections of the Alpine Club with their interesting excursions suitable for people of all ages.
What to do:
a holiday at the “Antico podere De Stefani” - in addition to relaxation and the silence of the countryside - can be full of outdoor activities: walks in the greenery, excursions on the Garfagnana Trekking route, the Francigena variant of Lunigiana-Garfagnana, the Via del Volto Santo and Via Vandelli, speleology, mountaineering, free climbing, ski mountaineering and snowshoeing in winter, cycling all year round (both mountain bikes and road bikes) without neglecting the landscape and good living with gastronomy, village festivals, medieval, popular and traditional religious festivals, the essence of the lifestyle of the population of our valley.
Agriculture:
the main crops of the company are Garfagnana spelt, wheat and corn of historic local varieties, buckwheat, vegetable gardens, orchards and a chestnut grove with different native varieties of chestnuts; we are "Custodian Growers" of ancient varieties of apples and vegetables and we take care of meadows and pastures for our herd of cows of the prized Pezzata Rossa Valdostana breed, specifically chosen because in our climate they are able to live free and outdoors all year round.
The "Antico podere De Stefani" is not a simple tourist facility but is a historic agricultural company, today engaged in various multifunctional agricultural and extra-agricultural activities with high social, environmental and conservation value: for example, the heating and hot water of the farmhouse and annexes are obtained exclusively with company biomass, the electricity is 100% certified from renewable sources, the building recovery interventions are studied and carried out by optimizing thermal insulation with the use of recycled materials and produced in Italy, we collaborate on a social agriculture project and in our irrigation pond lives a welcome and large colony of rare and endemic Apuan Newts.
Here you can experience a secluded and peaceful holiday in the heart of Garfagnana, in a farmhouse easily accessible on foot and by bike, or by train and bus, near the towns of Pieve Fosciana and Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, therefore convenient to all services.

L'antico Podere De Stefani è un luogo davvero incantato, immerso nel verde e nella natura incontaminata della Garfagnana. Noi abbiamo soggiornato nella Casina del ciliegio, un alloggio perfetto per coppie o, come nel nostro caso, per famiglie con un solo figlio, pulito, confortevole e fresco, dotato di ampia zona esterna, riservata, in cui poter pranzare o cenare all'aperto, o semplicemente rilassarsi leggendo un libro. L'ampia piscina dista appena una ventina di metri dalla Casina, ed è il luogo ideale in cui rinfrescarsi, in totale relax, nei giorni estivi più caldi, come è capitato a noi. Da Pieve Fosciana si possono raggiungere in automobile i principali siti turistici della Garfagnana in pochi minuti di viaggio, oppure, a piedi, ci si può servire dell'ampia rete sentieristica locale. Torneremo di sicuro l'anno prossimo. Grazie per l'ospitalità

Perfect location: nice and tidy apartment with all what you need for a comfortable stay, very friendly, relaxed and helpful owners, very good surrounding and garden, rural but close to the villages. Beautiful pool and relaxing area.

Abbiamo trovato la 'casetta' pulita. Arredata in modo semplice, ma funzionale. Posizionata nel verde, paese e negozi raggiungibili in meno di 5 minuti (a piedi). Accoglienza ottima, poiché i proprietari sono molto discreti e affabili. Tutto il necessario per una ricca colazione, con torta fatta in casa e ottima marmellata di mele cotogne.
