The accommodations are part of a traditional Canarian farm. The kitchen and a room are inside a typical Canarian cave. The other room occupies an old construction of volcanic blocks, they are local materials.
1. My Story
I was born Belgium to migrant parents from Italy. I studied physics, I worked in computer science. But what changed my life throughout my existence. It was my interest in international cooperation, the injustice of the less favored peoples and people. I studied Health Education and began to travel studying and cooperating, in Africa and South America. I worked in Ecuador implementing development programs in health and community tourism.
In 2006 I organized a first alternative tourism trip to discover Ecuador in a different way, visiting the projects that my association supported. I realized that many peasant communities would like to receive tourists but they did not know how or why.
In 2012, I settled in Ecuador, in the south of the Manabí province, to support 10 communities in the implementation of Community Tourism. From there we realized that it was necessary to promote organic farming and we launched the FINCAR program.
Beyond an economic activity, Community Tourism is a Sustainable Development strategy. It promotes the local economy but also helps to recover traditions, to value local cultures, to increase the self-esteem of the peasantry, to integrate young people and women in tourist activities, to preserve the environment, fauna and flora, to promote reforestation activities, the transmission of knowledge between the elderly and young people such as the history of the communities, the elaboration of handicrafts, traditional agriculture, etc. The community changed its conventional agricultural production towards agroecological production.
The benefits of community tourism, as a complementary activity, began to improve the living conditions of the communities and to give more opportunities to people.
In 2016, I decided to have my own sustainable development project with a focus on harmony with nature and local integration. Not a vacation rental house but something else, which allows you to get to know the Fasnia area, its people, its traditions, its life, and also transform the farm into a self-sufficient farm in harmony with nature. That takes time, and it is still under construction.
In 2018, with a group of residents of Fasnia, we prepared a strategic plan for the tourism development of Fasnia, which was approved by the city council.
In 2020, the pandemic changed the world, human relationships and mobility. But it showed that those of us who have returned to live in the countryside, the new agroecological peasants, were right.
2. The Farm

From my farm, I have a fabulous view of the sea and the mountains. The farm has half a hectare. It is in a state of recovery and transformation towards permaculture and in the process of reforestation with native plants and fruit trees, and installation of drip irrigation. Here it only rains a few days a year. The temperature in winter is 14 to 20 ° C, in summer it has an average of 25 ° C during the day. When there is haze, a few days a year, the temperature goes above 30 ° C.

The sea is 7 km away, with the beaches of Las Eras and de los Roques. Black sand beaches and volcanic rocks. They can walk on the cliffs of Las Honduras.
The landscape of Fasnia is carved by ravines and characterized by the white walls of its agricultural terraces of volcanic stones on southern edges. The troglodyte or pebbled houses and tile roofs are also a particularity of the region.
I am part of a local CODESO association for the sustainable development of La Sombrera, within this framework we accept volunteers to help us carry out the recovery and transformation work of the farm.
Soon we will organize permaculture vacation courses combining study, vacation and relaxation.
3. Accommodation characteristics
