Magisches Naturreich
Our magical natural kingdom in Andalusia, at the foot of the Sierra Nevada, at an altitude of 900m, is the perfect place to slow down. Embedded in the nature of the country's typical flora and fauna, away from mass tourism, traffic and light pollution.
Are you looking for a different kind of vacation? Are you looking for peace, relaxation, pure nature, and a place away from mass tourism? Then we might have just what you're looking for. We are located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada (southern Spain), in the Alpujarras at an altitude of 900 meters. Nestled in the natural surroundings of the local flora and fauna and under the azure sky, a feeling of peace and serenity quickly sets in. The perfect place to pause, unwind, and slow down.
On our property, there are two accommodations, each consisting of two idyllic living areas, each in the form of a individually designed caravan and an adjoining outdoor area with an outdoor kitchen, dining area, and various seating options. The central communal area features a spring-water pool, various sun loungers, a drinking fountain, another large seating area, and a tree-lined terrace in an old olive tree.
Adjacent, but somewhat more private, is a yoga area, as well as another terrace with a hanging bed under an olive tree, which invites you to spend the night under the stars.
A comfortable bathhouse with two toilets and a stone spring water shower with warm water powered by solar energy is also part of the property.
At night, the exceptionally clear night sky reveals a beautiful view of the stars and, not infrequently, the Milky Way, accompanied by the concert of crickets and the sublime call of the rare eagle owl.
Both the individual accommodations and the entire site can be booked independently.
The individual accommodations are ideal for 2-4 people. A tent can also be set up if needed, for example, for children. A baby cot can also be provided.
In addition to us two-legged friends, we also have a few four-legged friends (dogs, cats, horses, and sheep) living on our property. The dogs and cats can roam freely and are happy to visit our guests from time to time.
If you are interested, you can take advantage of various activities related to our horses. Further information is available upon request.
For those with an adventurous spirit, there's plenty to discover. The surrounding area invites you to hike along old donkey and trade trails, climb snow-capped peaks, or explore the deeply carved and wild-looking Ramblas.
Surrounding traditional villages and their markets entice you to explore Andalusian culture.
For those who simply want to unwind and enjoy the day, the summer cicada concert provides the perfect setting.
The surrounding area:
We are located in a remote area, with no direct neighbors. The nearest villages are 1.5 km and 2.5 km away. The nearest larger village is 7 km away, where you'll find various shopping options. The Alpujarra are known for their pleasant microclimate due to their special location between the Sierra Nevada (3,500 meters) and the Mediterranean Sea, as well as their traditional Moorish irrigation system and their unique flora and fauna.
Our nature accommodations are located on one of the most beautiful stages of the GR7, part of Europe's longest long-distance hiking trail, the E4. It leads along idyllic nature trails, past numerous whitewashed villages. It stretches as far as Portugal in the west and Greece in the east.
In 45 minutes by car, you can reach the Costa Tropical with its many small seaside resorts and beach promenades, or, in contrast, the mountain pass "La Ragua" over the Sierra Nevada at 2000 meters. From there, it is only a few minutes to the unique 16th-century castle of Calahorra on the Guadix plateau with its famous cave houses.
Granada, with the absolutely must-see Alhambra, can also be reached in 1.5 hours.
If you are arriving by plane, the best way to reach us is via Almería or Malaga airports.
Subsequently, the accommodation could request a deposit.

Overall: we had the pleasure of staying in the beautiful, lovingly hand-built, 'Casa Calendula' tree house. Our stay was very special and we are very grateful for our time spent here, hidden away in the Alpujarra de la Sierra.
How to get there: directions to their place were clear and their communication great throughout. We are grateful to Micha who greeted us and guided us down the driveway late one evening on our arrival. We made it with no issue in a small hire car, but it is best to approach in daylight, and take care on the small roads.
Beauty in nature: waking up to the views on our first morning was even more spectacular than the pictures make out. They had made everything perfect for us, the tree house was absolutely stunning, very comfortable (including desk space and plenty of storage), and full of creativity all around with sculptures, and different spots to sit and relax. We even enjoyed cold plunges in the natural spring-fed pool, listening to the birds, and visits from the friendly family dogs.
Equipment: the communal kitchen in the semi-open area beneath the treehouse was fully equipped and allowed us to enjoy more time outside. We prepared all meals from there, and there was also a fridge too. We cooked there rain or shine, and the large overhang kept everything dry while allowing us to remain outside. The impressive bathhouse has two toilets and a shower that runs off solar (or gas). They have fresh spring water from a tap next to the pool, just along from the treehouse/kitchen area.
Amenities: the nearest grocery shops and fuel station are nearby in Cádiar but be mindful of opening times (siesta). Beyond that, Órgiva was the next largest town from the coast when we approached. Closest communal recycling can be found at Yátor or Cádiar.
Walking recommendations: Micha also suggested a local hike (~2hrs) which was accessible directly from their place in Montenegro. It starts on the GR-7 hiking path towards Golco and crosses the river and follows it down into Yátor, returning back up the hill at the end. As we had access to a car, we also did a few other hikes nearby in Bérchules and surrounding hills.
Summary: this is a lovely spot, with a kind, friendly, family who want to share this mountain side with likeminded people who appreciate and respect nature.
It has been noticed: Green building, Solar thermal panels for hot water, Ecological cleaning products, More than 80% waste recycling.
Thank you very much Emma & Josh! It was lovely having you and you are always more than welcome to como visit again! :)
