Mas de Pau, Vallibona

We have renovated this country house (masía) to make a comfortable off-grid property set in the nature reserve of the Parque de Tinença de Benifassà and surrounded by forests and mountains. We've retained the traditional architecture while adding the comforts of modern life. It's a great place to unwind in peace and quiet and enjoy being in the middle of nature.

There are two bedrooms, one with a double bed and one king/twin + air mattress and shared kitchen, living room, dining room and outdoor spaces, including the barbecue.

As well as your comfortable bedroom with an ensuite shower and gorgeous mountain views, you have access to the garden and patio along with, of course, the many walking trails in the park. This is an ideal location for those looking to relax in peace and comfort whilst surrounded by nature. Above the mountains behind the house we often see griffon vultures circling on the thermals, and depending on the time of year, you might see a wild boar sow with her piglets searching for fallen figs under the trees. One of my favourite things to do in the summer is to float in the pool and enjoy the views of the mountains and forest. I think the best description of the property is ‘tranquil’. On a clear night you can lie on a hammock and have an uninterrupted view of the stars with no light pollution.

We have a cat, Tabitha, who is in and out of the house as she pleases but is generally shy. This might be a consideration for anyone who is allergic to cats.

Breakfast is included in the price of your room and the well-equipped kitchen is available for guests to use after the breakfast period. As we are off-grid, we ask that you cook in the daytime, especially in winter, to take advantage of the sun and not drain the batteries. We do have a back-up generator for emergencies but we try to avoid using fossil fuels. Water is sometimes at a premium, so no long showers please. We also have a barbecue for guests use. There are restaurants in the nearby (12kms away) villages of Vallibona and Rossell, and of course many more further afield.

All towels and linen are supplied, as well as toiletries.

There is an indoor dining area and a variety of places to sit and eat outside. There is also a barbecue (wood supplied). The sitting room has comfortable sofas, a smart TV (no TV channels as we don’t have access) and a DVD player. There are board games for those who like to play, and in the winter we light the log burner.

The finca is made up of steep-walled terraces and in the house there are various stairs and steps, which might not be suitable for people with mobility issues. The property is not wheelchair accessible. Please contact me if you would like more information.
