Our lodging is set on a spacious property with fruit trees and a pond where you can swim, surrounded by a forest of enormous trees. Many birds visit the garden, and you can watch them right from the terrace.
There are no large markets on the farm, but you will find a small pulpería (a very basic country store) where you can buy essentials. So, if you plan to cook at the house, please stop at a supermarket in a larger town beforehand.
You can also eat with local families on the farm. Meals cost around $4 per person, are very traditional, and offer a wonderful way to connect with the people.
Inside Longo Mai, you can walk the trails on your own or take guided hikes to learn the area before venturing out alone. You can also hike outside the farm, but you will need a vehicle to get there — this part of the country is well known for hiking.
On the farm, you can join agricultural tours and traditional cooking classes. You can also attend art and sports festivals. Follow the Madre Monte Festival (on Instagram), which happens once a year, and the Longomai Cross-Country Races (on Facebook).
