If you’re a traveler caring for nature and craving novel experience, but you’re deeply wary of the eco- and climate crises, you’ll feel at home here. This is an honest home. It isn’t offering you a modern tourist fantasy: this is no heaven on earth, no final refuge, no pristine-pure-virgin nature. Sorry to be myth-busting!
But this honest home sits on a working homestead and an apiary, around the corner from a stunning, 13c castle on a mountaintop in northeastern Bosnia. The local climate is getting extreme as everywhere else, and the noise and light pollution are creeping up, as everywhere else, but we’re counting our blessings: local water wells (and the water is sweet!); home-grown fruits and veggies (when ours fail, we turn to our neighbors’; when theirs fail, they come to us—rest assured, you’ll eat well); Bosnian peasant dishes and comfort foods (cooked slowly over fire, in all seasons); excellent air and a cooling breeze, even through the summers hot as hell; biodiversity all around that is palpable and salvific; forests to walk up to; and several well-hidden historical sites, aside from the fortress to check-out (a wooden mosque and a wish-making/invocation ritual spot).
We’re a family of writers and researchers. And we’ll welcome you as kind hosts: happy to be at your service, to show you or point you around, but just as glad to give you all the space you need.
