The Maier family runs the "Green BioHotel zur Post" in the city of Salzburg with passion and creativity. In the organic hotel, guests stay, feast and enjoy with a minimal carbon footprint.
As soon as you enter the "Green Hotel zur Post" you will notice the creative cloakroom made of old wood, the lush green moss carpet on the wall and the inviting reception. While the traffic is flowing in the Maxglaner Hauptstraße, it is quiet and comfortable in the upscale 3* BioHotel. In the late morning, some guests enjoy the Salzburg organic breakfast in the breakfast room. Espresso from Werners Rösterei (Oberalm) also awakens my spirits. This is followed by various organic juices, wholemeal bread with homemade spreads such as Liptauer and walnut carrots, as well as hearty dishes from the delicious cheese and ham buffet. The breakfast made from organic and, as far as possible, regional ingredients tastes excellent. If you want to eat vegan, gluten-free or lactose-free, you will also find a good selection.
Appreciation and added value through sustainability
The Salzburg organic breakfast is not included in the room rate and costs 20 euros per person. Guests are very happy to take advantage of this offer and enjoy the organic specialties. Managing Director Georg Maier greets the guests with a smile and sits down next to me. This morning he strengthens himself with bread from the Holztrattner Schinken bakery from the Renner butcher's shop in Maxglan and an organic egg from the Hillerzeder family in Anthering. He says: "I'm not a vegetarian. When I eat meat, it's important to me that it's of good, local quality.
Together with his wife Silvia, he is the third generation to run the city hotel. There are four city villas in total. In the town house, garden house, main house and Villa Ceconi, 38 differently and creatively furnished rooms await the guests. The guests are very happy to use the parking lot and garden as well as the e-charging point and e-bikes.
Vacation, of course
Maier is constantly looking for ways to improve and save. Sustainability, organic, regional food, saving energy and resources are a matter close to Georg Maier's heart. "We want to burden nature as little as possible. If I can omit the packaging or the aluminum can, I omit them." Photovoltaic panels on the roofs collect solar energy. A pellet heating system provides additional heat. Maier proudly says: "All of our energy comes from 100 percent renewable energy sources."
In order to guarantee consistent and high quality, the Green City Hotel is, among other things, a member of the Climate Alliance, bears the Austrian Ecolabel, is part of the "Sleep Green Hotels" network and is Austria BIO Guarantee controlled.
Ecological travel
If you are arriving by car, it is best to park your car for free in the hotel's own car park and use the trolley bus, a rental bike or simply walk to the nearby old town. When arriving by train, bike or e-mobile, guests are rewarded with a 10 percent discount on the room rate. Guests can refuel their e-mobile free of charge at the in-house gas station. I'm on my bike. In the city center I drive through the streets in the district of Maxglan. Here old villas and beautiful gardens line my way.
