“Know that when you commence your Itaca expedition,
the journey will be long,
rich in adventure and experience”
(Kostantin Kavafis)

Unlike your typical festival with stand and pavillions, IT.A.CA Festival of Responsible Tourism in Italy involves 2 weeks of events, itineraries and conferences, related with responsible and sustainable tourism. Biking, trekking with donkeys, hiking, slow tours by trein or by boat, concerts, book presentations, tastings and special contests are all part of the festival.

Held from May 21 to June 7, 2015 main locations are Bologna, Trento, Parma, Ferrara, Reggio Emilia, Ravenna, Rimini, Modena. But there are activities and events all over the surroindings and natural parks: the Apennines in Emilia Romagna to the Alps in Trentino.

IT.A.CÀ, the Responsible Tourism Festival, departed from Bologna and spread to Rimini, Ravenna, Ferrara, Forlì, Modena, Reggio Emilia, Parma … until it reached Trentino, from the big city to Mother Nature’s protected pastures.

Since the first edition with only four sponsors, today the event has grown immensely, now incorporating the participation of 140 people, from associations to local consortia, from businesses to universities, and large national partners such as UNESCO and MIBACT.

That first weekend-only trip has now turned into a 17-day journey, embracing, without haste, varied landscapes and experiences: walking, donkey rides, pedal power, trips by train or boat, so that one is wholly immersed in diverse territories and their enchanting landscapes.

Our dialogue has become a shared song, accompanied by an orchestra of travellers who, like us, live in a stillness suspended between multiple voyages and their diverse dimensions.

For the seventh consecutive year IT.A.CÀ invites you to embark on a responsible expedition, starting from home and arriving home (it a ca means “are you home?” in Bolognese dialect), any home, any Itaca within reach, where the most important thing is the journey and how you embrace it.

I am an architect with a passion for travel. I think it is urgent to be able to live in harmony with the ecosystem we are part of. After the birth of my second baby, Leo, I began to work at Ecobnb, an adventure undertaken to change the way we travel, to make it more sustainable, respectful of the environment, places and people.
