There are at least five reasons why walking barefoot, at least in our home, is good for our mental and physical wellbeing. Contrary to what is generally thought and our fears for hygiene, doctors and specialists, based on extensive research, argue that walking barefoot should become a habit for children and adults. This simple and natural activity is able to make us feel better.

Walking barefoot is good for our health

Here are 5 reasons why it is better to walk barefoot in our homes:

1. Walking barefoot it’s like a reflexology massage

We are accustomed to wearing shoes, renouncing our tactile sensitivity. But if we do not perceive correctly the quality of the soil, our walk is affected: the feet do not take the natural position, the arch does not develop properly. Walking barefoot allows us to stimulate all muscles of the foot, the effective distribution of the loads.

2. No more swelling

Walking barefoot reactivates blood circulation and venous return, thus reducing swelling and heaviness of the legs.

3. To fight the imperfections

Calluses, hammer toes, bunions and other foot blemishes are often treatable by simply walking barefoot, freeing your feet from the constrictive shoes that we usually wear.

4. Walking barefoot it’s healthier

Most of us have been used to the idea that walking barefoot is unhygienic and unhealthy. But scientific studies say otherwise. For example, a study of the University reveals that in the shoes there are over 400 bacteria, many more than those found on our newly cleaned floors.

5. Walking barefoot relax us

When you walk barefoot, relaxation of muscles and veins is spread throughout the body, giving an immediate soothing effect.
