Rifugio Casello Margherita
An ecological refuge surrounded by nature of the Sila National Park, between snowy peaks, forests and many routes lenses.
The Casello Margherita is the first mountain refuge of the Sila National Park, and one of very few in Calabria.
Former keeper's cottage from the early '900 restored following the principles of green building, immersed in the woods, chestnut, pine larch, beech and fir trees.
And 'the ideal place for those who love the mountains and nature, and the perfect starting point for excursions and itineraries lenses to look for mushrooms and chestnuts.
In winter you can enjoy walks with snowshoes and to practice cross-country skiing on the nearby panoramic road of the Peaks, which touches the highest mountains of Sila.
In summer it becomes a beautiful cycle tour.
The mountain retreat Casello Margherita rises 1,424 m above sea level in places Margherita, in the municipality of Celico (Cosenza), not far from the crossing point Montescuro (1,618 m), up to the 70 most important step from the west to access the Plateau silane.
The closest villages are those of Celico, Spezzano Sila and Camigliatello Silano which are 10 km away from the shelter. Just 20 km away is the city of Cosenza.
The shelter has 13 beds divided into four rooms, each with private bath. On the first floor are a triple room consisting of a double bed and a single bed, a quadruple room with a double bed and a bunk bed and one quadruple room with two bunk beds. A double room with bathroom for the disabled is on the ground floor where there is also a dining room, lounge and kitchen.
Superior is the decor of the rooms made with ancient pieces locally.
The refuge is open all year, offering the service of accommodation and restaurants. The kitchen of the shelter offers a set menu with simple and traditional dishes made with genuine products and of season, without forgetting "contamination" with Canadian cuisine.
Main dishes of refuge: stuffed eggplant, pasta and potatoes, pancakes with maple syrup, almond milk organic.
Biological products used in the shelter: pasta, potatoes, salads, oranges, tangerines, almonds. Other quality products: sourdough bread, extra virgin olive oil, silane cheese DOP, mushrooms, tomatoes, apples, walnuts, figs.
