Moulin de Courcelles, located in the town center of Arbois, holds 1000 years of historic significance for Arbois . It harnesses the power of the river to produce green energy. The apartment was lovingly renovated to preserve its historic cachet.
Moulin de Courcelles is centrally located in Arbois, 50 meters from the home and museum of Louis Pasteur. The mill holds historic and industrial significance for Arbois and the region, and has been used to harness the power of the river Cuisance for over 700 years.
It has been an important water power site producing nut oils, flour, hydraulic equipment (including the turbines for the regional mills), a sawmill, a papermill, viticulture equipment, dairy equipment, fireplaces, furnaces and presses. It now produces enough green electricity to power 75 homes. Producing electricity is not new for this mill. In fact this site was the first to produce electrical lighting in the region.
It is also the home for Association Bi.cycle Power, which was founded to combine earth friendly sources of power (solar, wind, water, and bicycles) with the concept that reuse is the most environmentally friendly form of recycling.
The enthusiastic owners of this magnificent site have lovingly restored the apartment to preserve the historic cachet.
William and Barbara will share with you their knowledge of this historic mill, and especially welcome you to their home on the border of the river Cuisance in the center of Arbois. It has capacity for 2 people. Many of the original components of the large kitchen/dining room have been kept to preserve its historic cachet. It is virtually a museum from the late 1800s with the added comfort of modern appliances. It also has a modern and spacious bathroom, replete with the original architectural features.
Bill and Barbara are bicycle enthusiasts and will be happy to accommodate your need for secure indoor bicycle parking as well as provide tools and advice for minor repair needs.
The historic charm has been carefully maintained while providing modern amenities. You will be charmed and warmly welcomed by Barbara and her husband.
Short or one night stays are also welcome.

Barbara was a welcoming and informative host. She gave us a fascinating tour of the mill and its hydro electricity generator.
The apartment was quiet and a few minutes walk from the centre of Arbois. It was spotlessly clean offering simple but perfectly adequate accommodation. Importantly, with August temperatures of 30-35C, it was a cool and welcome escape from the heat.
It has been noticed: 100% renewable energy, More than 80% waste recycling, Car-free accessibility.
It was so nice to meet and host you. I hope to see you in the future. Please keep in touch and I am looking forward to the photos of your friend's mill.
