Romantic off grid cottage with straw bale studio and workshop. The cottage is n the traditional moorish style using stone, olive and chestnut beams and slate floors.It nestles amongst ancient olive trees with spectacular views of the mountains.
This very romantic cottage built in traditional moorish style 200 years ago approximately. The accomodation is built around an inner courtyard covered in grape vines for summer shade. Each room has its own private entrance from either the courtyard or the garden. it is surrounded by half acre gardens built across 3 terraces with many ancient olive trees providing abundant shade.
There is a separate composting toilet built as a tower over 2 terraces and one of my guests described it as The most beautiful toilet she ever saw!
The pool, which is essentially a storage for water for the vegetable garden and olive trees, is filled with water from the high Sierra Nevada and is emptied and refilled every 2 weeks to water the land.
The cottage sits on the mountainside with good access and is 10 minutes drive from Orgiva, the main market town in Alpujarras where you can find supermarkets, health food shops, bars, cafes, restaurants, banks, etc.
It is also 15 mins drive to the famous white Moorish village Pampaneira and Capileira just above.
There is fantastic hiking routes in this area and also mountain biking and horse riding.
For lovers of the sea, the coast is 40 mins by car. There is also a good bus service in the area. Granada is 1 hour drive.
