Mezzano is a small village in Trentino, a jewel of Primiero located at the foot of Pale di San Martino. If at first it seems like another of the many mountain villages of the region, with the traditional houses in wood and stone and the panorama of the Dolomites that surrounds them, you will soon realize that Mezzano is a unique place.

Along the narrow alleys, at the foot of the ancient facades, in the squares, in the courtyards, under the stairs and on the balconies, you will find the traditional supply of wood for the winter transformed however in small works of art. Here, every pile of wood is a curious sculpture: there is a face in tears, a big cob, gigantic flowers. Next to the works created by local artisans, every year Mezzano also welcomes established artists who engage in beautiful installations: there is the accordion by Max Gaudenzi, the hourglass, closed between sun and moon to mark the passage of time, by Giuliano Rattin, the wood by Albino Rossi, the large wall by Marco Baj, which recalls the flood that struck the town in 1966.

So the village, with the project called Cataste and Canzèi, becomes an open-air museum capable of surprising you. This is enough to understand why Mezzano is included among the most beautiful villages in Italy, but there is much more to discover.

A slow holiday in Mezzano

Spending a vacation in Mezzano does not only mean discovering all the beauty and poetry of its wooden sculptures, but also leaving behind the frenzy of mass tourism and discovering a slower life, ancient traditions and all the rural charm. You will be able to discover the flavors of the territory, the two still visitable stoli, narrow underground tunnels built to channel water from the springs that surround the village to supply fountains, water troughs and then the first aqueducts; and if you then find a red chair, positioned each time in the most suggestive corners, ring the bell: a person from the town will come and be at your disposal to answer questions, give information, tell you about the history of the village, reveal curiosities and anecdotes, indicate where to find typical products and artisan work, where to eat, which paths to take to go up to pastures and shelters. Because everything is romantic in Mezzano and the authenticity of telling a story and meeting the other is still preferred.

All around a nature to discover, on foot or by mountain bike: with an easy path you can for example reach the Val de Stua, from which you can admire the magnificent amphitheater of the Pale di San Martino.

Where to sleep eco-friendly in Mezzano

In the village of Mezzano you can stay in a large attic of a beautiful eco-friendly house with garden. The apartment is large and airy with three balconies. It has a large living area with an equipped kitchen, a dining area and a relaxation area with a comfortable sofa in front of the wood-burning stove. There are two bathrooms and three bedrooms, two doubles and one with two single beds.
