1. What to see in Serbia<\/h2>\n

Landscape in the Balcans – Milos Golubovic<\/div><\/div>\n

Serbia<\/strong> is a country of eastern Europe, in the Balkans<\/strong>. The capital city is Belgrade<\/a><\/strong>, a modern city located at the confluence of the rivers Sava and Danube<\/strong>, in the heart of Serbia. Belgrade is one of the oldest cities in Europe and is definitely worth a visit!<\/p>\n

In the north part of Serbia there is the Autonomous Region of Vojvodina<\/strong>. The capital city is Novi Sad<\/strong>, an important cultural and economic center, situated along the banks of the River Danube. This area has always been a crossroads of different cultures, living together and this also justifies the autonomy of the region. At least six different languages<\/strong> \u200b\u200bare spoken and walking through the streets in\u00a0the city center you will find Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant churches and even synagogues, built close to each other.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0the south of Serbia there is the city of Nis<\/strong>, or Nyssa, a meeting point between the Balkan and European highways, connecting Europe and Asia Minor<\/strong>. The city was an\u00a0ancient Roman colony, today an important university center.<\/p>\n

In the south part of Serbia there\u00a0is also the Autonomous Region of Kosovo<\/strong>, independent since\u00a02008, but not yet officially recognized as a state itself. Different ethnic groups live together in this region, in particular Serbs and Albanians.<\/p>\n

2. Nature, sport and green itineraries<\/h2>\n

The landscapes in Serbia change rapidly, crossing from the north to the south. The region of Vojvodina includes the wide Pannonian Plain, extending\u00a0to the hills of Fru\u0161ka Gora. Here you can enjoy nature, visiting the National Park of Fru\u0161ka Gora<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and walking through hills and valleys\u00a0discovering the\u00a035 Orthodox monasteries, built over the centuries in the park.<\/p>\n

Going to the\u00a0south you will meet elegant mountain ranges, including the massif of Kopaonik, in Kopaonik National Park<\/strong>. Here you can\u00a0go hiking, for example following the paths leading to the top of the highest peak of the massif, the Pancicev Vrh<\/strong>, with its 2,017 m. The park is known for its commitment to preserving the biodiversity of flora and fauna, and\u00a0is also very famous for its ski resorts that annually welcome winter sports lovers from all over the country.<\/p>\n

In the far west of Serbia, you can visit the National Park of Tara<\/a><\/strong>, with its magnificent gorges carved by rivers and streams over time, its waterfalls and its dense forests of fir and beech trees. Here you can try rafting on the river\u00a0Dirna or sunbathing on the beaches of Lake Peru\u0107ac<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

3. Typical taste and local food<\/h2>\n

Serbian cuisine is characterized by the influence of the Mediterranean, Turkish and Austro-Hungarian tradition, thus offering a very original mix of flavors<\/strong>! You\u00a0can enjoy\u00a0a meal\u00a0in the typical serbian restaurants, called kafana<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Among the ingredients composing\u00a0the traditional dishes, meat<\/strong> is definitely one of the main, especially grilled or skewered. Taste \u0107evap\u010di\u0107i<\/em> and ra\u017enji\u0107i<\/em>, accompanied by the typical pepper sauce called ajvar<\/em>. Don’t miss the dishes based on fish<\/strong>, tasty and delicious, caught in the rivers.<\/p>\n

Another tradtional dish is the Turkish sarma<\/strong>, rolls made with boiled cabbage leaves, stuffed with ground meat and rice, flavored with many spices.\u00a0This dish is very popular throughout the region and is definitely worth to taste it!<\/p>\n

In\u00a0the region of the park of Fru\u0161ka Gora hills\u00a0are covered with vineyards producing\u00a0fine wines of ancient tradition, going back to the time of the ancient Romans. Serbia also is famous\u00a0for its\u00a0fruit-flavored grappa. The \u0161ljivovica, obtained from plums is the most famous in the Region.<\/p>\n
