The capital city is <strong><a title=\"Belgrade\" href=\"..\/..\/..\/belgrade\/guide\" target=\"_blank\">Belgrade<\/a><\/strong>, a modern city located at the confluence of the <strong>rivers Sava and Danube<\/strong>, in the heart of Serbia. Belgrade is one of the oldest cities in Europe and is definitely worth a visit!<\/p>\n<p>In the north part of Serbia there is the <strong>Autonomous Region of Vojvodina<\/strong>. The capital city is <strong>Novi Sad<\/strong>, an important cultural and economic center, situated along the banks of the River Danube. This area has always been a crossroads of different cultures, living together and this also justifies the autonomy of the region. The city was an\u00a0ancient Roman colony, today an important university center.<\/p>\n<p>In the south part of Serbia there\u00a0is also the <strong>Autonomous Region of Kosovo<\/strong>, independent since\u00a02008, but not yet officially recognized as a state itself. Different ethnic groups live together in this region, in particular Serbs and Albanians.<\/p>\n<h2>2. Nature, sport and green itineraries<\/h2>\n<p>The landscapes in Serbia change rapidly, crossing from the north to the south. The region of Vojvodina includes the wide Pannonian Plain, extending\u00a0to the hills of Fru\u0161ka Gora. Here you can\u00a0go hiking, for example following the paths leading to the top of the highest peak of the massif, the <strong>Pancicev Vrh<\/strong>, with its 2,017 m. Here you can try rafting on the river\u00a0Dirna or sunbathing on the beaches of <strong>Lake Peru\u0107ac<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>3. Typical taste and local food<\/h2>\n<p>Serbian cuisine is characterized by the influence of the Mediterranean, Turkish and Austro-Hungarian tradition, thus offering a <strong>very original mix of flavors<\/strong>! You\u00a0can enjoy\u00a0a meal\u00a0in the typical serbian restaurants, called <em>kafana<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Among the ingredients composing\u00a0the traditional dishes, <strong>meat<\/strong> is definitely one of the main, especially grilled or skewered. Taste <em>\u0107evap\u010di\u0107i<\/em> and <em>ra\u017enji\u0107i<\/em>, accompanied by the typical pepper sauce called <em>ajvar<\/em>. Serbia also is famous\u00a0for its\u00a0fruit-flavored grappa. The \u0161ljivovica, obtained from plums is the most famous in the Region.<\/p>\n<h2>4.
