Nestled among the <strong>hills of the Aveyron<\/strong> and protected by the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ecobnb.com\/blog\/2022\/07\/discovering-aveyron-grands-causses-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Grands Causses Regional Natural Park<\/a><\/strong>, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this estate of over three centuries found new life in 2021: a family project combining <strong>tradition, nature, and sustainability<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"embed-container\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Bienvenue \u00e0 Vaxergues\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dMvSul1uQ44?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/ecobnb.com\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Walking through its tree-filled gardens, you can feel a special harmony: that between the <strong>charm of a significant past<\/strong> and a modern rebirth, fully oriented toward <strong>ecotourism<\/strong>. The old buildings have been restored with respect, using natural and local materials; the roofs host solar panels that provide energy to the g\u00eetes; rainwater is reused to irrigate the <strong>organic vegetable garden<\/strong> and the gardens; and mobility is gentle, with <strong>electric bikes<\/strong> ready to take guests along the French countryside paths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the heart of the Domaine is not only in its architecture or eco-friendly solutions. With her, we <strong>traced the history of the place<\/strong> and discovered the philosophy driving this new sustainable hospitality adventure: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ecobnb.com\/blog\/2021\/05\/green-hospitality-eco-friendly-steps-hotel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sustainable hospitality<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Lise, can you tell us the story of Domaine Le Vaxergues?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDomaine Le Vaxergues has over <strong>300 years of history<\/strong>. It was once owned by <em>Mazars de Mazarin<\/em>, a textile entrepreneur, and then passed to General de Castelnau. During the war, the <strong>castle<\/strong> was occupied by the Germans and liberated by the maquis without resistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the 1950s, the Vaxergues became a girls\u2019 school run by nuns, then a rural studies center, and later an equestrian training center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2021, our family acquired the property and started a <strong>complete renovation<\/strong>. We wanted to preserve its <strong>historical identity<\/strong> while giving it a new soul linked to <strong>ecotourism<\/strong> and <strong>sustainability<\/strong>. We chose natural and local materials for the renovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 3-hectare park is <strong>organic certified, LPO refuge, and Cl\u00e9 Verte 2025<\/strong>. We cultivate an organic vegetable garden and a \u201cfood forest\u201d with over <strong>40 varieties of fruit trees<\/strong>. We installed bird nests, insect hotels, and bat shelters, supporting biodiversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All the energy for our g\u00eetes comes from <strong>solar panels<\/strong>.
