Between wonder and unease, Salgado’s photographs reveal glaciers as we’ve never seen them: magnificent, fragile, endangered<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Until September 21, 2025<\/strong> at the Mart in Rovereto<\/strong>, and until January 11, 2026<\/strong> at the Muse in Trento<\/strong>, visitors can explore a photographic exhibition<\/strong> that is much more than a display: it’s a call to action, a powerful visual testimony to the fragility of glaciers<\/a><\/strong>, one of the planet\u2019s most precious \u2014 and vanishing \u2014 resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition, titled “Salgado. In the Realm of Glaciers”<\/em>, is entirely devoted to the slow but relentless melting of ice. According to a 2021 study<\/strong>, the cryosphere \u2014 the part of the Earth\u2019s surface covered by solid water \u2014 has been shrinking by about 87,000 square kilometers<\/strong> every year. To put it in perspective: an area the size of Portugal disappears annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When a glacier shrinks too much, it loses the ability to move \u2014 to flow \u2014 and eventually\u2026 it dies. A dramatic symbol of this phenomenon was the \u201cfuneral\u201d of the Okj\u00f6kull glacier<\/strong>, held in Iceland on August 18, 2019. Which one will be next?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These are not new themes for Salgado, who since the 1970s has used photography to explore social and environmental issues in over one hundred countries worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Brazilian photographer Sebasti\u00e3o Salgado<\/strong> (1944 \u2013 2025) devoted most of his life to portraying the transformations of the Earth and its social and ecological crises through his lens. This exhibition also aims to document the threatened beauty<\/strong> of our planet \u2014 especially that of its glaciers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition was conceived by the Trento Film Festival<\/strong>, curated by L\u00e9lia Wanick Salgado<\/strong>, and produced in collaboration with Contrasto<\/strong> and Studio Salgado<\/strong>. It is hosted:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
