Many teenagers<\/strong> today grow up immersed in social media<\/strong>, yet disconnected from what really matters<\/strong>: the environment, the future, and the concrete actions needed to protect them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today my fifteen-year-old son was sitting on the couch with a lemon popsicle in one hand and his phone in the other. Short-sleeved t-shirt, earphones in, scrolling through socials like there was no tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And maybe, \u201ctomorrow\u201d is exactly what\u2019s missing from this scene. Outside, the spring sun is shining. Inside, the thermometer reads 18.5 degrees Celsius. It\u2019s not cold, I\u2019d say. Yet he asks me to turn on the heating. I tell him no, it\u2019s not necessary. He could put on a sweatshirt, maybe drink a hot tea instead of a popsicle. But his answer is a shrug as he goes back to watching pointless videos\u2014dances, pranks, and challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This seemingly trivial episode reflects a generation at risk of growing up disconnected from the reality that truly matters<\/strong>. A reality made of climate crisis, out-of-control energy consumption, depleting resources, and a planet that, while we scroll, is burning. Literally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everyday choices that change the world<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Not turning on the heating for just a couple of degrees less isn\u2019t just an economic choice \u2013 although, with today\u2019s prices, that would already be a good reason. It\u2019s an ecological<\/strong>, ethical<\/strong>, and urgent<\/strong> choice. In Italy, home heating accounts for over 17% of greenhouse gas emissions<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every time we use heating or air conditioning when it\u2019s not needed, turn on a light unnecessarily, buy something we don\u2019t need, every time we choose immediate comfort over sustainability<\/strong>, we\u2019re choosing the kind of future we want. And the one we\u2019re building today isn\u2019t promising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

10 sustainable actions for teens who want to make a difference<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

So, what can we do? Where do we start?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The good news is that change is possible. It\u2019s<\/strong><\/span> necessary<\/strong>. And this especially applies to you teenagers<\/strong>, because you have the power to turn the present into a better future. And it\u2019s not as hard as it seems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are 10 practical things every teen (and adult) can start doing right now<\/strong> to stop scrolling aimlessly and start saving their future:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. \ud83d\udd0c Turn off what you\u2019re not using<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Lights, TV, computer, console \u2013 everything uses energy. If you\u2019re not using it, turn it off. It\u2019s a simple but powerful rule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. \ud83e\udde5 Sweatshirt, not heating<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re cold, don\u2019t rush to blast the heating. Put on a sweatshirt, make yourself a hot tea. Comfort shouldn\u2019t cost the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. \ud83c\udf54 Eat smart<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Cut down on meat and junk food. Choose fruits, vegetables, and local and seasonal produce, reduce food waste<\/strong><\/a>. Sustainable food is cool (and good for your skin too).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. \ud83d\udeb2 Move smart<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Walk, bike, or take public transport. You don\u2019t need a car to go 1 km. And you might even discover corners of your neighborhood you\u2019ve never noticed before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. \ud83d\udcf5 Scroll less, live more<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Set limits on social media. Use your phone to get inspired, not just to waste hours. Go for a walk, talk to someone, look at the sky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t stop at the headlines. Follow creators who talk about the environment, watch documentaries, read<\/a>, and stay informed. Knowledge is power \u2013 even to save the planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9. \ud83d\udde3\ufe0f Make your voice heard<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Talk about it at school, with friends, online. A post, a story, a conversation \u2013 even one voice can spark change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And you, teenager of today, will be the adult of tomorrow. The world you\u2019re building is the one you\u2019ll have to live in.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And if you\u2019re teenagers<\/strong> today, you\u2019ll be the adults who truly have to face the consequences tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
