Over 1500 kilometers, I used just two plastic bottles, washed clothes and myself with a single eco-friendly soap, avoided junk and packaged foods, and, of course, used no diesel or gasoline. At some point, I wondered: <strong><em>what if we all lived like this?<\/em><\/strong> That was my first awakening to a strong <strong>ecological consciousness<\/strong>\u2014a path I haven\u2019t strayed from since.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img width=\"768\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/ecobnb.com\/blog\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/11\/journey.jpg\" alt=\"journey\" class=\"wp-image-57609\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ecobnb.com\/blog\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/11\/journey.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ecobnb.com\/blog\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/11\/journey-536x302.jpg 536w, https:\/\/ecobnb.com\/blog\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/11\/journey-570x320.jpg 570w, https:\/\/ecobnb.com\/blog\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/11\/journey-344x194.jpg 344w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3>What aspects do you consider fundamental in your journey toward eco-sustainability?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Making thoughtful, eco-conscious choices that fit the scale of our business, our available resources, and our budget is crucial. I avoid <a href=\"https:\/\/ecobnb.com\/blog\/2022\/02\/greenwashing-in-tourism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">greenwashing<\/a>, which often tempts with low-cost, high-visibility shortcuts. After years of hosting, there\u2019s a risk of letting certain standards slide, of \u201cgoing on autopilot.\u201d I love when guests write warm reviews that clearly convey useful details for future guests. <a href=\"https:\/\/ecobnb.com\/IT-pr\/bed-breakfast\/b-b-biutiful-casa-contadina-vacanza-ecologica\/8kDzK\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">One recent review on Ecobnb from Viola<\/a> captured this: \u201c<em>Wonderful stay with Rossana and Federico: the B&amp;B is very eco-friendly and well-kept, and they are both incredibly kind<\/em>.\u201d It sums up exactly what we hope guests take away from their experience with us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Let\u2019s bust the myth that eco-sustainability must be expensive. Do you believe \u201ceco-friendly\u201d can also mean \u201ceconomical\u201d? <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Keeping our hospitality \u201caccessible\u201d has always been a priority. Perhaps \u201ceconomical\u201d isn\u2019t the right word; it\u2019s about valuing things appropriately, not undervaluing our work. These items may be more expensive than in large stores, but it\u2019s up to us to explain the quality and labor involved. When guests choose to cook in-house using our pasta, eggs, and vegetables, they often save money while enjoying wholesome, authentic food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My advice is to help guests see the value in forsaking unnecessary luxuries, focusing instead on what is virtuous, traceable, natural, and rich in authentic stories and values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>What green initiatives have brought you the most satisfaction, and which do guests appreciate the most?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Our \u201ctreasure hunt\u201d has been a favorite, not only as a green initiative but as a way to illustrate the tangible impact of our eco-friendly choices. We\u2019ve placed small chests around our garden with clues about our environmental practices. As they explore, guests discover our gardens, water catchment areas, greenhouse, wood stove, chickens, solar panels, and fireplace, collecting beads from each chest that represent various elements.
