50 years after the 1972 Stockholm Conference on the protection of the environment, Sweden will be hosting World Environment Day 2022<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The theme: #OnlyOneEarth<\/h2>\n

June 5th<\/strong>, 2022, will mark World Environment Day, as designed by the Stockholm Conference in 1972.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s theme is #OnlyOneEarth<\/strong> and it was chosen to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Stockholm Conference, that used the same motto. The theme couldn\u2019t be less accurate: Planet Earth is only one and it is our challenge and responsibility to protect it. It recalls the need to live sustainably<\/strong> in harmony with nature as resources are finite and must be safeguarded.<\/p>\n

The 1972 Stockholm Conference<\/h2>\n

Sweden was chosen to host World Environment Day 2022 for its environmental commitment since the 1972 Stockholm Conference<\/strong><\/a>, the first world conference on the environment.<\/p>\n

The 1972 Stockholm Conference resulted in the creation of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP)<\/strong><\/a>, a body that promotes sustainable development and encourages the implementation of the environmental agenda.<\/p>\n

It also led to the Stockholm Declaration on the Human Environment<\/strong><\/a>, an ambitious action plan that serves as a guide for the preservation of the environment.<\/p>\n

Finally, the 1972 Stockholm Conference designed June 5th as World Environment Day<\/strong> every year.<\/p>\n

World Environment Day 2022 will be hosted in Sweden<\/h2>\n

Sweden has been chosen for its environmental commitment<\/strong> since 1972.<\/p>\n

This year, World Environment Day will highlight environmental concerns<\/strong>, Sweden\u2019s initiatives<\/strong>, and global efforts<\/strong> regarding the preservation of the environment.<\/p>\n

Sweden\u2019s initiatives include the long-term goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2045<\/strong>, and negative emissions afterwards.<\/p>\n

Stockholm +50<\/h2>\n

On June 2nd and 3rd, Sweden will also host Stockholm +50<\/a><\/strong> to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1972 Stockholm Conference and promote the implementation of the 2030 Agenda<\/a>.<\/p>\n
