Probably founded by the Ancient Greeks, inhabited first by the Etruscans and then by the Romans, Sorrento has been a popular tourist destination<\/strong> since the nineteenth century, when it began to become a must for those looking for that typically Italian<\/strong> and romantic<\/strong> atmosphere<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

What to see in Sorrento<\/h2>\n

Byron<\/strong>, Shelly<\/strong>, Tolstoy<\/strong>, Dickens<\/strong>, and Nietzsche<\/strong> are just some of those who have been fascinated<\/strong> by the unique beauty<\/strong> of Sorrento. Now it’s our turn. Let’s start exploring the town from its main<\/strong> square<\/strong>, dedicated to the poet Tasso. Here we can admire the Baroque<\/strong> Church of Maria del Carmine, the Correale<\/strong> Palace<\/strong>, and the splendid historic buildings. But above all we can mingle<\/strong> with the local<\/strong> people<\/strong>, starting to understand the authentic soul of Sorrento. The square is also the access point to the historic center of the town: from here starts a maze<\/strong> of characteristic<\/strong> streets<\/strong>, where we will find ancient artisan<\/strong> shops<\/strong>, shops, and excellent gelato<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0parlors.<\/p>\n

Continuing our exploration we cannot miss the Duomo<\/strong>, the picturesque Marina<\/strong> Grande<\/strong>, and the port<\/strong> of Marina<\/strong> Piccola<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Villa Comunale<\/strong> stands in the garden of the Franciscan friars and is certainly one of the most beautiful spots in all of Sorrento. It’s perfect for enjoying the sea breeze<\/strong> and an incredible view<\/strong> over the entire Gulf.<\/p>\n

The beauty of Sorrento also passes through its flavors<\/strong>. There is, for example, the lemon<\/strong>. It’s one of the symbols of this Campania town, and we can taste it in typical sweets<\/strong> and the classic<\/strong> limoncello<\/strong><\/em>. Then there are many fresh fish dishes, Provolone del Monaco<\/em> cheese<\/strong> and, of course, the gnocchi alla sorrentina<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

But how to make our holiday in Sorrento more respectful of the environment? Nothing easier! We can arrive by train<\/strong> without too much stress: from Naples, easily reachable from any city, the Circumvesuviana<\/strong> station departs, arriving in Sorrento. The ticket costs less than 4 euros. We have many options for a green stay: we can sleep in one of the comfortable rooms of the Hotel Villa Giovanna<\/strong><\/a>, allow ourselves a night away from everything in Villa Carolina<\/a><\/strong>, or in the Holiday Home Gaia Sorrento<\/strong><\/a>, or opt for the Family House Terrace<\/strong> accommodation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

There is no shortage of opportunities to immerse yourself in the surrounding<\/strong> nature<\/strong>. We recommend visiting the mysterious Vallone Dei Mulini<\/strong><\/a>, organizing a boat ride that includes the Blue Grotto of Capri, the protected marine area<\/strong> of \u200b\u200bPunta Campanella, or Lattari Mountains Natural Park<\/strong>. And how can we not talk about one of the most beautiful hiking trails in the world?
