The Azores archipelago has a lot of natural pools. Most of these natural pools consist of rocks originated through ancient volcanic eruptions. The solidification of the lava created new rocky formations, sculpted by marine and wind erosion.<\/p>\n

1. Santa Cruz das Flores – Flores Island<\/h2>\n

Here you can warm up<\/strong> your spirits<\/strong> in the small natural pools<\/strong> with volcanic<\/strong> origins. During the summer they become the main attraction.<\/p>\n

2. Caldeira Velha – S\u00e3o Miguel Island<\/h2>\n

It is in a wild jungle-like environment that makes you feel like you are in Jurassic Park<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Located on the lovely southeast coast<\/strong> of the wonderful Graciosa Island<\/strong>. You can find here sulfurous waters<\/strong>. Doctors indicate them therapeutically<\/strong> for skin disorders and rheumatics problems. Sport fishers<\/strong> often frequent these swimming pools.<\/p>\n

4. S\u00e3o Roque do Pico – Pico Island<\/h2>\n

These natural pools are located on the northern coast<\/strong> of Pico Island<\/strong>. This is a place of great peace of mind. You can find calm and crystalline<\/strong> waters<\/strong>. A perfect spot for contemplation<\/strong> moments. Ideal place for all nature lovers<\/strong>. Also, it is a small place but very inviting to bathing. In addition, there is a small garden<\/strong> nearby that makes the space even more enjoyable and conducive to leisure.<\/p>\n

5. Terra Nostra – S\u00e3o Miguel Island<\/h2>\n

Wander around Terra Nostra park<\/strong> and find out these charming natural pools.<\/strong> Terra Nostra Park is the best place for post-lunch<\/strong> activity. There is a botanic garden<\/strong>, there are lakes, a camellia<\/strong> collection. Also, there is a thermal water<\/strong> lake that is yellow, opaque and between 35\u00baC<\/strong> and 40\u00baC<\/strong>. On the Terra Nostra website<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0you can find four garden itineraries<\/strong>, one for each season of the year. These thermal baths are very spacious. \u00a0At the end of the day, you have the perfect setting for amazing pictures<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

6. Biscoitos – Terceira island<\/h2>\n

This place is a must if you are visiting Terceira island<\/strong>. It is located on the north coast<\/strong>. The bathing area of Biscoitos consists of natural pools<\/strong> outlined among black rocks resulting from volcanic eruptions<\/strong>. This area attracts many bathers. Also, it attracts people liking to contemplate nature<\/strong>. You can see the colour contrasts<\/strong> between the dark basalt<\/strong> and the blue<\/strong> of the sea. This area is also a well-known wine-growing<\/strong> region. Finally, you can find here the famous Verdelho wine<\/strong> of the Azores.<\/p>\n

7. Sim\u00e3o Dias – S\u00e3o Jorge island<\/h2>\n

The Sim\u00e3o Dias<\/strong> natural swimming pool is located in Faj\u00e3 do Ouvidor<\/strong>. One of the greatest lavas faj\u00e3s of the northern coast<\/strong> of S\u00e3o Jorge<\/strong>. It is a natural paradise<\/strong>. This pond is geologically characteristic for its display of prismatic disjunctions in the sloping cliffs.<\/p>\n

8. D. Beija – S\u00e3o Miguel Island<\/h2>\n

The water is 39\u00baC<\/strong> in the pools and 28\u00baC<\/strong> in the \u201criver\u201d that flows between them. Temperatures that make swimming possible all year<\/strong>. Then, the pool closes at 11 pm and it is an even more incredible experience at night time<\/strong>. This is a great way to end a day in S\u00e3o Miguel<\/strong>. People from the village would come here to enjoy the water inside a natural cave.<\/strong><\/p>\n

9. Po\u00e7a das Mujas – Pico Island<\/h2>\n

Po\u00e7a das Mujas is the best natural pool in Pico<\/strong>. These natural pools are located in Calheta de Nesquim<\/strong> in the eastern<\/strong> part of Pico Island. In the area nearby there is a volleyball<\/strong> court.<\/p>\n

10. Ponta Da Ferraria – S\u00e3o Miguel Island<\/h2>\n

The Ponta da Ferraria<\/strong> natural pool is unique. Definitely, something you must experience. If you are there at low tide, the water will be steaming hot. Finally, check<\/a> the tides online before you go. It is easier to reach the warm thermal waters<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
