The sustainable tourism is a different way of traveling asking a particular attention for the choices taken during the holidays such as for example the transportation and the accommodation. In some cases, <strong>sustainability<\/strong> is the motivation to undertake a trip: what we call <strong>sustainable tourism<\/strong>. This is exactly the case of <strong>Freiburg<\/strong>, a small city in the south part of Germany, that starting from the 90\u2019 has begun to create a project with the aim to transform the city into a sustainable one.<\/p>\n<h2>The sustainable city<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_21001\" class=\"thumbnail alignnone\"><img class=\"size-full wp-image-21001\" src=\"https:\/\/ecobnb.com\/blog\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/11\/Freiburg-2.jpg\" alt=\"Freiburg\" width=\"870\" height=\"490\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ecobnb.com\/blog\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/11\/Freiburg-2.jpg 870w, https:\/\/ecobnb.com\/blog\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/11\/Freiburg-2-536x302.jpg 536w, https:\/\/ecobnb.com\/blog\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/11\/Freiburg-2-570x320.jpg 570w, https:\/\/ecobnb.com\/blog\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/11\/Freiburg-2-344x194.jpg 344w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 870px) 100vw, 870px\" \/><div class=\"caption\">Mobility in Freiburg \u2013 picture of Thomas Meinersmann via Flickr<\/div><\/div>\n<p>The first step for creating a <strong>sustainable city<\/strong> was the realization and construction of the <strong>green buildings<\/strong> with a low environmental impact and with the introduction since 2011 of a <strong>standard of passive house<\/strong> for the residential buildings. Thanks to the <strong>thermal insulation,<\/strong> the buildings in Freiburg are able to save a huge amount of energy requested to heat and cool the internal environment. This is possible only thanks to the insulation, without any conventional heating.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>But not only, the project includes an<strong> urban mobility plan<\/strong> to improve the quality of the life and the welfare of the citizens without compromising the development of the city. The principal public transport is the <strong>bicycle<\/strong>. The city counts today only <strong>500 km of bike lane<\/strong>, and more than <strong>200 thousands of bicycles<\/strong>, the double of the quality of the autos circulating in Freiburg.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Finally, the area of the city known as <strong>Village Solar<\/strong> uses the 1800 sunny hours per year to generate energy thanks to the use of 1800 solar panel, producing more than 4 times the energy that consumes. Here in Freiburg three authentic <strong>eco areas<\/strong>\u00a0have been built.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Vauban<\/strong>\u00a0area, projected by the German architect Rolf Disch is the model for the urban development planning and it has been developed thanks to the environmental awareness and to the citizens participation becoming the symbol of the sustainable city and of the hight quality of the life.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Weingarten<\/strong>, an old district of the \u201960, that has been requalified realizing \u201cBuggi 50\u201d, the highest restored building with a passive standard in the world.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Rieselfeld<\/strong> is an eco-friendly district with a high population density but in contact with the nature, that uses the removable energy. Here the tourists arrives to have a contact with the <em>green economy<\/em>.
