Predictably, the direction of future automotive will be directed towards electricity. Electric car markets is growing and Electric mobility systems are spreading around Europe. Is Italy ready for the new challenge?<\/em><\/h3>\n

Notwithstanding people\u2019s mistrust in new forms of mobility, there are several indicators which lead us to predict the lowering of fossil-fuel dependence. The future of mobility moves by electric car.<\/p>\n

In 2016, as automotive industries were trading new \u201chybrid\u201d advanced models of electric cars, market\u00a0demand raised consistently and sales increased by 40%<\/strong> compared to the previous year for a total amount\u00a0of 800.000 cars sold.<\/p>\n

The growth of electric car mobility in the world<\/h2>\n

As China<\/strong> was the country in which the largest number of electric vehicles was built,\u00a0225.000 units were sold in the first three trimesters of 2016 amounting for an increase of 118% in\u00a0comparison with the previous year.<\/p>\n

China is followed by United States<\/strong> with 109.000 electric cars sold and\u00a0an overall increase of 33%. Notwithstanding United States\u2019 trend towards this market, the sector is growing\u00a0also in Europe, where the total sale has reached 151.000 cars.<\/p>\n

Countries such as Norway, Netherland<\/strong>,\u00a0Germany<\/strong>, France and UK show a very strong development of both the number of circulating EV and the\u00a0implementation of incentive policies.<\/p>\n

Italy bringing up the rear<\/h2>\n

Also in Italy the number of EV is increasing year by year and this is a\u00a0clear indicator of drivers growing interest for a more sustainable mobility. Nevertheless, there have been\u00a0some obstacles in the implementation of integrated policies in support of faster and stronger expansion of\u00a0electric car market.<\/p>\n

Considering the total number of electric cars, Italy ranks nineteenth in Europe with a\u00a0percentage of 0,15% on the total of circulating cars<\/strong>. This slow progression can be explained with the lack of\u00a0tax breaks, green investments, appropriate infrastructure and subsidies introduction by the Italian\u00a0government.<\/p>\n

Looking at the case of Norway<\/strong>, these are essential instruments which are certainly able to\u00a0guarantee the success and the spread of electric models. These kind of vehicles, in fact, are much more\u00a0expensive than diesel and gasoline engines, thus they need major incentives<\/strong> in order to become popular\u00a0among the public.<\/p>\n

Alongside this context, however, other sectors of the market may be adversely affected\u00a0in terms of general loss of competitiveness and innovation. Tourism, for instance, is likely to be negatively\u00a0influenced by an obsolete system not in line with technological trends and the absence of integrated policy\u00a0instruments.<\/p>\n

As we all know, tourism is a relevant and strategic sector of the Italian economy. Due to its
\nunique historical, cultural and environmental heritage many people visit our country from all around the\u00a0world every year.<\/p>\n

The recreational and tourist vocation of italian territories is an important resource for\u00a0local economies. The challenge these destination face is to increase competitiveness and reach a significant\u00a0part of touristic demand in line with market trends and innovation.<\/p>\n

For this reason, Italy cannot be found\u00a0unprepared<\/strong>: when tourists from Germany, Norway and Netherland will look for a place to visit making use\u00a0of electric cars, they will definitely choose a destination with energy columns and reserved parking spaces.<\/p>\n

Innovation in tourism: towards electric mobility<\/h2>\n

Tourist, in fact, is getting more and more conscious and informed, looking for new contexts and\u00a0experiences, with an equal or higher standards of living in comparison to their homeland region.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0addition, a new environmental sensibility is speedily growing in the last years, in favor of \u201cgreen\u201d holiday\u00a0choices, which favor nature and place identity preservation. This kind of vacation takes the name of\u00a0\u201cresponsible tourism\u201d or \u201cecotourism\u201d. More and more travellers choose their vacation carefully,\u00a0preferring low impact holidays in close contact with nature. The spread of this phenomenon not only allows\u00a0hosts\u2019 greater satisfaction, but can cater important benefits to ecosystem and environment.<\/p>\n

Tourism, that\u00a0interests every single Italian region, not only generates wealth both in local contexts and metropolitan\u00a0cities but also increases development perspectives. In turn, it implies also negative effects for the\u00a0environment and competitiveness.<\/p>\n

Looking at the great tourism flows that run over Italian fragile rural and\u00a0coastal areas<\/strong>, it is clear that the tourism by car involves concerns about its impact on nature and air quality.<\/p>\n

This is true especially in those areas where alternative and public transports are not developed orconsidered as strategic assets to fight the greenhouse emissions of cars. Another trait of the modern tourist\u00a0regards the large number of activities that people want to join during the holiday period. In fact, they do\u00a0not want to remain in a single place, but instead engage in various activities, different experiences and\u00a0cultural trips.<\/p>\n

For this reason mobility represents a not neglectable sector for the local environmental\u00a0contexts and for the resident community. The fruition with private cars of touristic products involves
\nexceeding of the maximum capacity of a destination, considering the concentration of the flows in a few\u00a0months in the year and the limited parking spaces and rest areas.<\/p>\n

These can be considered the cause of\u00a0imbalances regarding social and environmental levels, which lead to the loss of attractiveness.<\/p>\n

From the analysis of these issues, it emerges the great opportunity<\/strong> that technology development and\u00a0innovation can bring to the Italian transport system, allowing for new perspectives of economic growth<\/strong>,\u00a0environmental sustainability<\/strong> and competitiveness<\/strong>, especially in tourism.<\/p>\n

Looking at the various\u00a0international examples, it is understood that there is much still to be done in Italy in terms of the\u00a0conversion of the current mobility system. Crucial will be the role of government and institutions in\u00a0supporting it, but times are running fast and soon it will be possible to look at the progress made in this\u00a0important strategic sector.<\/p>\n
