Nijmegen<\/strong> overlooks two rivers<\/strong>, the Waal River and the Meuse River, and is considered the oldest city<\/strong> in the country. Walking through the alleys<\/strong> and squares<\/strong>, we were struck by its atmosphere, poised between past<\/strong> and future<\/strong>. We breathe the typical Flemish<\/strong> atmosphere<\/strong>, with visible signs of 2000 years of history<\/strong>, in beautiful contrast with the futuristic<\/strong> look of the city center, which lives mainly in its dock<\/strong> and among the many cafes and restaurants.<\/p>\n The city has been able to create an environment on a human scale<\/strong>, also focusing on renewable<\/strong> energies<\/strong>. Recently, the town has realized an entire energy-efficient district<\/strong> that makes exclusive use of clean<\/strong> energy<\/strong>. Four wind turbines<\/strong> will be soon implemented. The good service of public transport<\/strong> and bicycle paths<\/strong> allow residents not to use the car. All city buses run on environmentally friendly<\/strong> fuels<\/strong>; the houses along the road arteries are isolated from an acoustic point of view and separate collection<\/strong> is at record levels.<\/p>\n The city of Nijmegen has about 160,000 inhabitants and is primarily a city of university<\/strong> students<\/strong>. It is located a few kilometers from the border with Germany. Its surroundings are sometimes spectacular<\/strong> and perfect for a cycling<\/strong> holiday<\/strong>. In the hills that surround it you can see beautiful mills<\/strong> and the nature<\/strong> reserves of Ooijpolder and Duffelt are not far.<\/p>\n There are many green areas<\/strong> where locals and tourists can relax during the day and there are so many incredible views<\/strong> of the canals<\/strong>.
