The wonderful wayfaring poets trek awaits us in Val di Zoldo, before the Belluno Dolomites, touching in seven days all the major massifs between daring forks and placid green valleys.<\/p>\n

Walking<\/strong>\u00a0associates with\u00a0our thoughts, as\u00a0the ancients, from\u00a0the Greek philosophers to the Japanese poets, well knew when they composed their best works walking. Taking a trek<\/strong> of several days on the Italian mountains can become an excuse for letting your mind wander freely, savoring the time of walking\u00a0slow and steady.<\/p>\n

The Val di Zoldo<\/strong> is well suited to these meditations. Rough and wild, it is located away from the crowded most popular hiking trails of\u00a0the Dolomites<\/strong> and for this offers wide natural spaces to feel at one especially with yourself.<\/p>\n

Twenty kilometers north of Belluno<\/strong>, and 20 kilometers\u00a0south of Pieve<\/strong> di<\/strong> Cadore<\/strong>, there’s\u00a0Longarone<\/strong>, dominated by a dam. From Longarone we go up the narrow valley that after just ten kilometers opens in the first charming village of Forno di Zoldo, and then continue up to Zoldo Alto.<\/p>\n

Along this valley wrongly less known we can admire\u00a0the Bosconero<\/em> group behind us, the Spiz di Mezzod\u00ec<\/em> group to the\u00a0left, and the group that includes Tamer and San Sebastiano<\/em>, and\u00a0the magnificent group of Moiazza<\/em> and Civetta<\/em> that\u00a0stands proudly in front of us. Isolated, on the right, the majestic “careg\u00f2n de \u2018l Padreterno<\/i>” (God’s throne<\/em>) rises: it’s the Pelmo, a magnificent 3,168 meters high rock mountain, that was the first peak in the Dolomites\u00a0to be climbed (in 1857 by Irishman John Ball) and on whose slopes there’s\u00a0the first Italian Dolomites refuge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Before us, clear stones that represent the spirit of the Dolomites<\/strong>: soft meadows<\/strong>, with shady forests<\/strong> and steep sunny forks<\/strong>, and a breathtaking 360\u00b0 view<\/strong>, like the one on Mount\u00a0Rite, at 2,183 meters altitude.<\/p>\n

The wayfaring poets trek<\/a><\/strong> runs along the bases of all these mountain ranges, making a circular tour lasting an average of seven<\/strong> days following the Circular Trail of Zoldo Dolomites<\/strong>. It is recommended for experienced hikers<\/strong> as it has some very technical sections, steep and exposed, and because it’s necessary\u00a0to carry on their shoulders a multi-day backpack.<\/p>\n

The trek\u00a0starts from Forno di Zoldo <\/strong>and,\u00a0climbing along the slopes of the Spiz group, reach the refuge Sora’l Sass-Giovanni Angelini (1,588 m.). It continues down to the bucolic valley Pramp\u00e8r up to Col de Michiel, thus bypassing the slopes of the San Sebastiano group, touches the scenic bivouac V. Angelini (1680 m.) and\u00a0reaches the Passo Duran (1605 m.).<\/p>\n

A small digression leads us to the superb mountain refuge\u00a0“Brutus Carestiato”, at the base of the impressive Moiazza group.<\/p>\n

From Passo Dur\u00e0n <\/strong>we\u00a0continue towards the base of Moiazza-Civetta. Experts can follow the route of the “Angelini Path”, but there’s also the simpler route, with great landscapes, that runs through the Val de la Grava<\/strong> to get down comfortably in Forno<\/strong> Alto<\/strong>, the largest town in the valley. From here\u00a0we climb\u00a0through forests, plains and rocks to\u00a0the refuge A. Sonino to Coldai (2,132 m.), at the foot of Mount<\/strong>\u00a0Civetta<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Now\u00a0the most bucolic and relaxing stretch of the trek\u00a0begins, down through meadows<\/strong> and pastures<\/strong> to Passo Staulanza and then along the southern base of Mount Pelmo, through\u00a0the dinosaur footprints<\/strong>\u00a0arrvingat its eastern foot, where stands the refuge\u00a0Venezia- de Luca (1,946 m.).<\/p>\n

The next stage initially leads us to the refuge Talamini (1,582 m.) and then climbs up towards the spectacular Mount\u00a0Rite (2183 m.) that houses the refuge\u00a0Dolomites and the Messner Mountain Museum Dolomites<\/strong> called\u00a0“the museum in the clouds” for the extraordinary view 360\u00b0 that offers.<\/p>\n

Through\u00a0downhill we reach\u00a0Passo Cibiana and the refuge Remauro\u00a0(1,530 m.) and then we\u00a0climb gradually to Sforni\u00f2i. From the saddle of Calada a steep and demanding descent leads to the Bosconero.<\/p>\n

The last stage, very easy, leads\u00a0down into the valley, reaching the starting point in\u00a0Forno di Zoldo. If you wish, you can descend directly to Forno, saving a day of trekking, but do you really want to miss\u00a0the magic of the sunset over Mount\u00a0Civetta, while behind the refuge\u00a0the walls Sasso di Bosconero turn red?<\/p>\n
