The largest volcano in Italy<\/strong> will become part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.\u00a0 It will be officially included on the UNESCO World Heritage List<\/strong> during the 37th World heritage Committee in Cambodia, next June<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The International Union for the Conservation of Nature<\/strong> has defined Etna as Icon of the Mediterranean<\/strong>,\u00a0recognizing the importance of Mount Etna for his scientific relevance,\u00a0 cultural and educational value, natural beauty<\/strong> and, of course, for the ultra-ancient fame of the volcano.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

‘A Muntagna<\/strong>‘ – in Sicilian dialect – is also the highest active volcano in Europe and one of the largest and most active in the world<\/strong>: often you hear and see, with explosions, spectacular fountains of lava and ash columns.<\/p>\n

Mount Etna has erupted many times in human history<\/strong> and the intense and persistent volcanic activity generated myths, legends and naturalistic observation from Greek and Roman classic times<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“It’s a significant goal for Italy<\/strong>“, said the Italian Ministry of Environment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“The UNESCO recognition – as has happened recently with the Dolomites<\/strong> – is an opportunity for our country to combine environmental protection with sustainable development and ecotourism<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n
