Wake up in the Slovenian Collio

Medina's Klinec Inn combines the traditional hospitality of the Slovene Collio with the offer of a modern family restaurant: biologically produced wines in its own cellar, the opportunity to enjoy traditional seasonal and local produce and the possibility to live picturesque landscape, rich of natural and cultural attractions of the Slovenian Collio.

A century of life and work in harmony with nature has taught us that the best things are the simple ones and that you have to take the time to enjoy them. Therefore, our guests always serve dishes prepared exclusively with fresh ingredients, produced in the tradition of the Slovenian Collio and enriched with selected wines of excellent quality.

We are happy to welcome anyone who wants to spend a pleasant weekend or a short break between our hills and the friendly people of the place. In our farm you can enjoy the unique experience of waiting for dawn on the hills in three rooms (2/2 and 1/3), furnished according to the ancient tradition of the Slovenian Collio.

The delicacies with which we spoil our guests are inspired by the traditional recipes tested in the kitchens of our grandmothers and homemade products grown in the fertile soil of the Slovenian Collio. Most of us can feel the perfume of the typical soup of the Slovenian Collio, homemade salami, white polenta and the 'tocio' to the ham. Every season our guests are thrilled with seasonal specialties: wild asparagus and unmatched celery soup. The flavors born in the summer sun of the Slovenian Collio are captured in home-made vinegars and cold-pressed olive oil that our guests can enjoy throughout the year.

Thanks to the mild and sunny weather in the Slovenian Collio, guests can sit on the sun terrace with views of Medana vineyards, but when it pulls the snow we invite you to warm them in front of the traditional fireplace or invite them to continue to let spoil the palate in our dining room.
At the Klinec inn we warmly welcome both large groups of tourists and individual guests intentionally or by accident, who stop by us to gather their thoughts and to regain strength in order to continue with the exploration of the beauties of the Slovenian Collio

Where our land today alternates the maroon-brown color of the woods, vineyards and meadows, it was once blue: that of the prehistoric sea that covers everything. About 245 million years ago, during the Mesozoic era, sedimentation gave rise to extensive strata of marne and sandstone. Later, in the Eocene, the sea retreated from Collio, and the collision between the plates caused Julian's orogenesis, which from then on protected it from the current colds of the North. Today the soil of the Collio Goriziano (in the Slovenian language Goriška Brda) is mainly composed of eocenic rocks called flysch, rich in marine fossils such as the Assilina Medanica, named after Medana, our village. Exposed to the sun and atmospheric agents, the compact flysch quickly decomposes, transforming into fertile soil, rich in minerals and well drained, while the underground maintains its dense stratification and ensures, thanks to its low permeability, the precious moisture content.
The geological phenomena mentioned above and the subsequent ones have to shape the territory as a thick succession of ridges, valleys and hills that gently slope from the highest altitudes of the Korada and Sabotine Mountains to the Friulian plain and the sea. And thanks to its proximity (15 km), the sea, the refractive effect and the flow of temperate breezes, the sea represents a decisive factor for the mild climate of our area along with the Alps barrier. Solar irradiation reaches the average value of 2900 hours a year. For centuries we Brici - so we called the Collio in slovenia - we plant and grow the vines on the slopes of the hills, preventing the erosion and the drainage of the terrains with the terraced accommodation which represents, among our images, the most well-known and lover to the lovers of wine.

Among the lovers of culture, Medana has long been known as a place of poetry. Here is the Slovenian poet and translator Alojz Gradnik, who besides the eternal theme, love, devoted most of his work to life in the Slovenian Collio.
In addition to poetry, the summer evenings of Medana and its surroundings are enriched by numerous concerts of jazz music and movie projections, while at the end of October, in the context of the Medana Art Festival, every year we gather painters and sculptors from our farm Worldwide.

The irresistible charm that continues to attract visitors to Medana is certainly the unique location of the Slovenian Collio, amidst the luxuriant and varied mediterranean nature, sprawled with picturesque villages. You will enjoy the beauty of our landscape at best if you can forget the speed and comfort of motorized vehicles and if you take some time. You can explore the place on foot, by bicycle or on horseback, you can enrich your experience by playing tennis, golf or hunting ... or you can simply lay on a sunbathing chair and enjoy the sun, fresh air and the view on the green sloping slopes of vineyards.
