La casa di paglia Horti Amerini

S.da di Cecanibbio - Località Fornole - 05022 Amelia - Terni - Italy

An ancient stone farmhouse renovated in green building and enlarged with a wooden and straw structure, immersed in the Umbrian countryside. Ideal for resting, working in the natural coolness of the house or starting point for a thousand excursions in the surroundings.

A comfortable, healthy home, naturally cool in summer, ideal for resting or working inside or in the shade of the oaks and a starting point for visiting cities and towns such as Rome, Perugia, Todi, Spoleto, Spello, Assisi, Orvieto or to immerse yourself in the nature of the Holy Valley of Rieti, the Marmore Falls, to wander on foot, by bike or on horseback in the mountains or in the rolling hills that surround us.
In front of the house, a 7 x 3.50 meter swimming pool overlooks the landscape of the countryside on the border between Umbria and Lazio, from the snow of Terminillo to the unmistakable silhouette of Monte Soratte on the outskirts of Rome.

On the ground floor you will have a large kitchen equipped with dishes, stove with four gas burners, fridge with freezer, electric oven, microwave oven, TV and a large table for six people with marble top. Adjacent to the kitchen, a lounge and a porch with tables and sofas offer space for lunches, dinners, remote work and relaxation.
On the first floor the rooms:
a double bedroom with bathroom and a single bed with the possibility of opening a second; two double bedrooms with a shared bathroom with bathtub and access to a panoramic terrace; an open room with a single sofa bed that can become a double.
Lime or raw earth plasters, wooden floors or earth stabilized with natural linseed oil where you can freely walk barefoot ... the result is a comfortable, healthy home, easily warm in winter and naturally cool in summer.
Around you a three-hectare land full of olive trees, bordered by large oaks, with small plots of lavender and rosemary and softened by a young garden that begins to grow luxuriantly. In front of you, the gentle cultivated hills of the green Umbrian countryside accompany your gaze to the mountains of Lazio: from Terminillo to Monti Cimini, passing through the majestic and solitary Soratte which indicates the position of the Eternal City. After all, Rome is forty minutes by train, an hour by car ... so close yet so apparently far away.

A few tens of meters from the guest house is my home. Spaced and positioned so as to be able to maintain mutual privacy but close to be available if needed.

The Amerini Hills are Umbria a stone's throw from Rome. From the farmhouse you can reach most of the typical attractions of Umbria and Tuscia, in the north of Lazio in a day: from the cities of art to the places of local gastronomic excellence, from the natural beauty of the hills, its mountains, volcanic lakes. and the thermal springs but, at the same time, you can visit Rome in the day and then rest in the evening enjoying the sunset among the trees with a glass of wine in your hand, again away from traffic and confusion.
A few kilometers from the farmhouse there is the Narni Amelia railway station on the Ancona-Rome line which, a few minutes away, intersects the Rome-Florence line at Orte.

In Orte, the tollbooth of the A1 Rome-Florence motorway gives access to the E45, a freeway that on one side allows you to reach Viterbo in half an hour (from here you can continue to Tarquinia and the sea, crossing the Tuscia with the lakes of Bolsena, Vico and Bracciano and all the Etruscan and medieval towns of the Viterbo area), on the other it leads to Terni, from where to continue or to Rieti and the Valle Santa (with natural beauties such as the Prati di Strocone, the Piediluco lake, the whose waters falling towards Terni form the Marmore Falls, and the Franciscan places such as Greccio, or even higher up to Cascia, Norcia and the Piana di Castelluccio), or towards Foligno (passing through Spoleto, Trevi, the Fonti del Clitunno, Spello, up to Rasiglia), or towards Perugia (passing through Todi, Deruta, and continuing towards Foligno, Assisi, Cannara, Montefalco…). Too many things to see and too few lines to describe them all ...

This place is very special. The house is beautiful and very comfortable. The surrounding is amazing. The pool is the giving this place the final perfection. Nature all around you. Wonderful places to sit and talk in the garden. A scenic view. And moreover, Sergio is a great host and a wonderful person. I recommend this place to all my friends.

It has been noticed: Green building, Energy saving lights, Ecological cleaning products, More than 80% waste recycling.

Thank you Thorsten..! Reading your words has been really moving 😊 I appreciated your interest in the straw bale house construction and I'm happy your family enjoyed to spend a few days here! As we said, don't hesitate to ask about the earth floor or any other questions you will have. See you again one day 🖐🏻😊
