A warm welcome awaits you at Cluain Cottage, a charming, eco-friendly ground floor apartment next to our own home. We live on a working farm, mainly tillage with a few sheep and beautiful woodland, on the outskirts of the market town of Carnew in County Wicklow. Offering all ground floor accommodation, our place is ideal for families and friends or less mobile guests looking to get away from it all. Bright and spacious, the cottage nestles in glorious countryside and has an open plan kitchen with living and dining areas and is a perfect spot for all sociable events – from rustling up a hearty Irish breakfast, to curling up in front a roaring fire at the end of what will be an adventurous day exploring our beautiful surroundings. With three bedrooms, two doubles and a twin room it will provide you with flexible sleeping arrangements. The spacious wet room with walk-in shower again compliments less mobile guests.
Outside the front of this lovely cottage is a patio and shared lawned garden where you can sit and relax with a refreshing drink after a day spent exploring the area. You can enjoy walks from your doorstep in a part of Ireland that has a wealth of wildlife and is set in an area of rural beauty.

*All of our photos have been taken either inside the cottage, outside in the garden or in the fields, down along the riverbank, from looking at them we're sure you will agree with us when we say we think that we are blessed to live in such a beautiful place :-)

Neighbourhood overview
Tomnafinnoge Oak Wood is just over five miles away, while The Wicklow Way, starting in the picturesque village of Clonegal, takes walkers through pretty little Irish country towns and villages where you can experience authentic Irish hospitality. Huntington Castle, home of the Fellowship of Isis, is also situated in Clonegal. If golf is your passion, Carnew is a five minutes’ drive from Coollattin’s magnificent 18-hole golf course, it’s probably the most stunning golf course in Ireland. The traditional town of Bunclody is only seven miles away, a pretty town full of charm, at the foot of Mount Leinster. A 30-minute drive away will find you at the Blue Flag beach at Courtown with the surrounding areas being blessed with fabulous long sandy beaches too. The ancient monastic settlement of Glendalough, in the Wicklow Mountains is only 37 miles away, with the National Heritage Centre at Ferrycarrig, Wexford only 31 miles in the other direction. So you see Cluain Cottage is a great choice for your holiday, for a truly original taste of Ireland and a place to be enjoyed at any time of year. A beautiful, peaceful little place nestled in nature, ideally situated if you either want to explore SE Ireland or sit, back relax and take time out. Or indeed a little bit of both.

Getting around
As we live out in the countryside there is no public access on the doorstep, but there is a bus service from Carnew village, 1 mile away, which will take you into Gorey, which has great rail and bus links to Dublin City, Dublin airport, and going the other direction into Co Wexford and as far as Rosslare for ferry crossings. Bunclody is only 7 miles away and it has excellent bus links to Dublin and Waterford. There is secure off road parking for at least three vehicles outside Cluain Cottage.

Other things to note
Please be aware that while the apartment is self contained and on the ground floor, there are bedrooms overhead which are used by our adult children if they come to visit at weekends or during holiday periods. While they will always ensure to be as quiet as possible, there may be times when some footsteps or movement can be heard overhead. This has never been an issue but it’s just something we would like to make you aware of. Another point to note is that during our lambing season - late December to March- my husband will oft times have to check the ewes during the night - so sometimes you might see torchlight or hear footsteps in the yard, but we will always alert you to the fact that this might be the case.
